Firstly, an early happy draft to you all...it's always an exciting day. Though I'll only be able to listen to the Ticket (online) while I bust my behind making a stone patio. :bang2:
Anyways, wanted to share my thoughts on the draft and what I'd like to happen for our Cowboys. So... Who should the Cowboys take with their top 3 picks (two 1st rounders and one second)?
First, here are a few of my favorites whom any I’d be very happy to land: CB Mike Jenkins, CB Aqib Talib, CB Antoine Cason, WR James Hardy, RB Ray Rice. Now, here’s my analysis of what could possibly happen for our Cowboys.
Pick 22
With pick 22 in the 1st round, I’m hoping for a CB and assuming the top 3 RBs are off the board. Specifically Mike Jenkins or Aqib Talib, because it seems Rodgers-Cromartie and McKelvin will be long gone. Jenkins might be gone too, so Talib could be the guy here.
Many mocks have this pick going to Felix Jones. I don’t think he’s the type of player who can carry the load if Barber gets hurt and therefor not worth a 1st round pick in my opinion. Though, we won’t be surprised if Jerry (and his Arkansas connection) pushes to take him.
If they go WR, then James Hardy would be my choice. He is big and very productive in the end zone.
Scenario 1 - The Cowboys take CB Aqib Talib.
Scenario 2 - The Cowboys take WR James Hardy.
Pick 28
I’m getting the feeling the Cowboys are going to trade down from this pick depending on who they were able to get with pick 22. If they got a CB or WR in pick 22 like I’m predicting, then I believe they will trade down to get either a RB or CB (if they didn’t get one from pick 22).
If they got a CB with pick 22, then I expect a trade down into the early 2nd round to target a RB. Perhaps Jamal Charles or Chris Johnson.
If WR James Hardy is available here, then I think he should be the choice.
If they got a WR with pick 22, then I expect a trade down into the early second round to take a CB. Perhaps Antoine Cason or Brandon Flowers.
Scenario 1 - The Cowboys trade down into the early second round and take RB Jamal Charles.
Scenario 2 - The Cowboys trade down into the early second round and take CB Antoine Cason.
Pick 61
This pick is very dependent on who the Cowboys get in round 1. If the Cowboys haven’t gotten a RB by this point, I think Ray Rice would be a steal here. If they’re were able to a CB and RB at this point, then I expect them to pass on a WR and go with the best player available on the board regardless if it’s a position of need for the Cowboys.
