Now I'm not saying whether this will actually happen or not. But consider this:

Suppose the Cowboys were to go undefeated for the rest of the year. If that were to happen, would you consider this year's team to be the greatest Cowboys team in their history?

I'm curious about your thoughts on that.

Nope, for the same reason that if the Pats go 19-0 they still aren't the greatest ever, the competition is different. The league is entirely different than the 70s through 90s.

Exactly. I have a hard time believing the 92-93 Boys wouldnt manhandled this year's Boys like little girly men.

So the 70s-90s is officially the golden age of professional football. Anything that happened before and after that time frame will forever be considered inferior and unworthy.

I guess I should feel fortunate to have witnessed that entire untouchable age.

I think you'd have to consider it the best single-season effort from any team in Cowboys history.

Nostalgia makes heroes out of men. I'm sure at the end of 1992-1993, there were precious few people who would have been willing to say "This is the greatest Cowboys team ever" - yet 15 years later their dominance is recognized as such.

If the Cowboys were to finish 15-1, and somehow knock off the juggernaut Patriots in the super bowl, you've got to acknowledge this year's team as the best single-season Cowboys squad ever. And, no matter what happens from here on out, this is the best season from a Cowboys QB anyone has ever witnessed, and Romo's on his way to being the greatest Cowboys QB anyone has ever witnessed. They can't control the league they play in. Recognize the dominance as such and leave impossible arguments like "Could they compete with the 90s 49ers and Cowboys?" alone. There is no right answer to those questions. 18-1 super-bowl champions is the right answer to any question.

Pure speculation. Aikman himself has said that this team could have competed with those teams of the '90s. If this team runs the table, and plays David to NE's Goliath, I think we'd all be hard pressed to point to a better Cowboys team. Obviously that would be saying a lot. Doesn't mean it couldn't be said.

The Cowboys teams of the 70s and 90s are judged to be great because they performed at a very high level for a long period of time. The 70s Cowboys went to half the superbowls that decade and the 90s team was the first to win 3 out of 4 superbowls.
If this years team were to win it all and defeat NE it would enter NFL lore for a long time to come( Joe Namath anyone) but a judgement of greatness would have to have a standard set in performing over time not one magical season.

It's a tough one, isn't it? I keep going back and forth. But again, if you think about the type of effort it would take to accomplish winning out plus all of the single season franchise records falling the way they are, it would be hard to argue which Cowboys SB of the past is superior.

Little girly men ???

One of the more ridiculous posts I've seen in a while.

Not saying this years team would win or lose, .. but manhandle like little girly men ???

I missed it all so I might as well not even bother. Here's to soccer :bang2:

Get Terry back, sure up our secondary and run the ball better, win the Superbowl and I will think about it over a Mai Tai.

It tough to see this team as better than the 90's team because they won 3 superbowls and numerous Hall of Famers. However, if they go 15-1 and win the superbowl and go on to win 1-2 more superbowls over the next 4-5 years, then I think we will look back on this 15-1 team as just as good as the 90's teams.

The league is a little more watered down now. Where it shows up is in depth. Many of the backups on the 92-93 team could have started elsewhere (and did once free agency began in earnest). Most teams today are pretty thin.

I definitely think that the 92-93 team would have the upper hand in a game against this 07-08 team.

OTOH, this 07-08 team is remarkable for being heads and shoulders above their NFC competition. The 92-93 team wasn't much better than the 92-93 49ers.

Yes, I would have to.

Agreed. Good post.
