This is common conception, But have you ever stopped and asked why?It's really just about the value. For instance, if Philly wants to Trade the pick it will be less valuable than a 2027 on the return.
How many teams are truly in “throw away future assets to win now” mode? 5? Less? So that can’t be the reason 1 first rounder is worth considerably less than another.
The entire reason that philosophy started is because GM’s and HC’s need talent infusions now to keep their jobs. Theres no other process to hold fast to that mindset of devaluing your team’s future. A GM like Jerry or Howie who knows beyond reasonable doubt he will be employed in 2028 can take advantage of the GM’s who don’t know that. Today do you look back and think about how much more valuable your 2020 1st was than your 2021 1st? The idea serves a specific purpose that some teams are exempt from.
