A Kicker is NUMBER 1 PRIORITY.

In regard to your post:
1. Kicker isn't the number one priority but we do need one.
2. A Kicker and Flozell didn't cost us a trip to the Superbowl.

The good ones don't miss in crunch time.

Vinatieri missed a kick last night when New England was down and really needed it.

I guess he's not a good one then ???

My money is on Vinatieri.

If we could somehow swing that, I'd jump for joy.

He would make a HUGE difference for us.

Longwell would be nice too, but Vinatieri is the best there is right now.

No its not. How many games did we lose cause our kickers misses. 2 or 3. Now out of those games we lost, how many would we have won if we just scored 1 more TD. all of em. The Oline again is your culprit. If Beldsoe had time to pick em apart a kickers not beeded at all. How many drives stalled cause we had penalties or no run blocking and had to settle for a FG try. Again a more potent offense would alleviate the dire need on a kicker and make it a modest need.

I will admit we need a kicker, but not in the first round. You need a stud Olinemen. especially since none are projected in the first round. why reach and not get a stud Olinemen so you have a kicker that will still miss 10-15% of his kicks at the best of times.

...you can't just fault the o-line because there is a very important variable at play you are ignoring. The opposing defence. You are making the assumption that you will always have a superior, well sometimes the other team has the superior line and you just have to deal with it.

What is so unique about the kicker's situation is that rarely does the opposing team physically stop you from being successful from a certain distance in, let's say for argument's sake 35 yards or less.

What usually gets the kicker is weather, field conditions and the majority of the time, mental fortitude. The kicks from 35 yards and in are usually makeable it's really the kicker getting in the way of himself.

I didn't say the draft. I said in FA - I would never draft a kicker in the first round.

I am basing this off the results of our line play. Not the assumption ours should be better but wasn't. Rewatch the games. We killed outselves so many ways so many times and by so many different players. the kickers the obvious scapegoat. Thats 3 points you should have seen, but didn't. You dont see the six points go away on Pettetis flag. You dont see the six points go away on Roys un-neccassary roughness flag. You do see the six points go away on Thompsons fumble, but he doesn't get the blame?

In any event. I am saying that our line this last year cost us games. Flat out period. Thier play effect every other unit on the team, even Defense. And kicking game, if we score more we dont need a FG try thats missed.

You can break it down any way you want to, you can spin numbers till they say what you want to. Hard cold reality is our Oline play was sub-NFL standard. We woulda lost to USC and maybe the university of Hawaii on their best day. When that unit is strenghtened to become an above average NFL-standard line, you watch the numbers Bledsoe puts up, Glenn, Crayton and Key put up, the numbers Jones and Barber put up. You watch how few FG attempts we make and the misses are not nearly as crippeling as they were last year. It all starts upfront with the 5 unglamorous positions known as the trench. If you got a good unit, your a good team, if you have a bad unit, your a bad team. The best Defense wont help you get over the top with a bad Oline. The best kicking game will not win every game for you and you put ndue stress on the kicking unit. Granted, they get paid to kick and should not matter the level of stress, but in reality, it does matter.

He may or may not be the one, but you can see the importance of them now. Let's just hope BP and JJ opens the wallet and does whatever it takes to get that situated.

After that , we can focus on RT/C.

I would agree with you that we are oversimplifying laying it ALL on the kicker but the way BP coaches the Kicker being poor was a huge hindrance.

We will absolutely improve there in the off-season.

...all thetalk about o-line play the games all did really come down to one play where the Dallas Player was unopposed. In all the other plays there was someone in front of the player trying to stop him with a relatively good chance of success at it.

What so disappointing to the fans about the kicking situation was that the kicker was in relatively "shoo in" territory, but we ended up with failure. Getting six points or the first down is significantly harder than a 32 yard kick. Let's not blame the o-line for a single failed play. Let's just blame the kicker or the snapper and whoever had an actual hand in those three plays.

And for all the horrible line play we displayed, we still had a chance to win in several of those games.

But when you miss FG's from so close and not to mention several of them in a row, their's no excuse for that. And even if you have the best line in history, you will not score TD's on every down. This means, when you have a chance to put points up, just do it.

the coaching or the kicker?

I'll say it again! Kicker number 1 on our FA list this year.

Ha, ha, you've been watching that Vanderjagt again haven't you?
It's sad. The poor guy is not used to kicking since his team scores touch downs all the time.
