Lever guns are great! Henry's are nice as well, dunno if they even make a 30/30 though. All kinds of options with Marlins. You can even get 308 although it isnt 7.62X51.
Hoss you're gonna get me in trouble. I just bought a new carry piece when I was home last month. Pretty sure the Mrs. will not understand me buying something else! O well she's been mad before...

i'm actually looking at a marlin. i know they're not a winchester, but hell, i have a springfield m1a - i got one of those.

i just want a western type 30-30 that's dependable, not an all world beater.

marlin seems to be calling me.

I am still trying to find a way to sneak a SOCOM into the house without getting caught. M14 is my all time favorite rifle. One day... Marlin makes an excellent rifle man. I have owned several over the years and regret letting them go.

marlin seems to be what i'm looking for.

tomorrow i want to shoot:

.357 mag pistol. s&w highway patrol pistol
sti - 1911 .45 acp
mosin nagant - gotta ya know?
springfield m1a. it's "entry level" but an entry level m1a is pretty bad to the arse.

the 30-30 marlin just feels right. can't explain it after that.

this is fine for what i would do - just have fun w/it.

Sounds like fun. I dont own a Mosin Nagant but have shot a few. Very tough to beat for the price. Pretty tough for a lot more than they cost. Wasnt long ago I was looking at some place online had em for less than a hundred bucks. Been drooling over STI's for a while. Another one of those "one of these days guns"
I just joined the Angelina Rifle and Pistol club back home before I came back to work this hitch, planning on burning up quite a bit of ammo when I get back on land.

mine was a present and i got the easy eye scope. i also got a brittish .303 that was american made, as a present from this friend.

come to think of it, he gave me the .357 i'm going to shoot tomorrow. : ) it's a history example of a nice sniper rifle mass produced. but i'm glad to have one.

the sti is the entry level .45 acp that .45 auto jammed in 1st time to fire. i'll go in tomorrow w/acp and try again even though same bullet. being new, i just gotta be patient. but it's a sweet gun.

What kind of jam? Probably just need to get used. That is pretty common for a new 1911. Especially the upper end production guns. The tolerances a pretty tight, put a few hundred down the pipe and I bet she'll loosen up. Worst case you might need to pull the extractor and just bend it ever s slightly, thats if it is a failure to extract which is the usual case.
Man I gotta get better freinds! lol If you are ever in Lufkin let me know I will take you to the range I go to.

You'll love the Marlin. I had a 336C in .35 rem. I really regret trading that one now.

Now you've got me noticing that I don't have a lever action in the safe. I'm going to have to tell my wife Iceberg made me do it.

Oh man, I love lever actions like no other firing mechanism.

I have 2 and want a 3rd. I have a Winchester 30-30 Model 94 and a Winchester .308 Model 88. The lever action on that 88 is the smoothest action I have ever used. I want a Winchester .22 as well.

I like bolt actions, but I love lever actions.

There are more lever action 30-30's in the woods during deer season around here than any other firearm. Great shorter range brush gun and you can get some rounds off in a hurry. That .308 must have a kick to it!

It isn't that bad really. It is deadly accurate. If I have it in the crosshairs, it is dead. I rarely have a shot more than a half inch off dead center at 100 yards if I take my time and make sure of the shot. It took me forever to sigh the scope in, but once I got it, I wouldn't move it for anything.

You can't believe how smooth that lever action on it is until you work it. If you are looking for a lever action and can find one of these, I highly recommend it.
