A Little Cowboys Coaching Tidbit

I was talking to some people in the NFL and they were giving me their thoughts about the Cowboys coaching vacancy. Keep in mind, these aren't "insiders" like Mort so they have no clue on who Jerry Jones is going to hire, they are just football people giving their opinion on who would be the best choice. To a man, they all laughed at Turner being the head coach and said they couldn't possibly see Jones handing this team over to him. The two names that the people I talked to said should really be considered are Ron Rivera and Mike Singletary. I was told both of thse guys would bring a hard nosed approach to the Cowboys and put something in place that the team sorely needs and hasn't had in a while: a long term plan. Anyway, they seem to think Rivera and Singletary will both make great head coaches some day and should be high on the Cowboys list. Keep in mind, this isn't my opinion, I'm just passing this info along as an FYI. Neither of these guys could be on the Cowboys radar, they are just two coaches who some around the league think will do a good job when their time comes.

If they are not "insiders" then you should call them some people out the NFL

They work in the NFL. They are just not in the business of making stupid predictions like John Clayton does. In other words, GM's and coaches. They don't pretend to know who the Cowboys are going to name as their coach, and neither does anyone else. They were just giving me guys they thought would make good coaching candidates. The moderators here know who I am and that what I'm saying is true so if you have a problem, ask them about it.

I agree that both of these guys would someday make very good HC candidates.

Of the two, I think Rivera may be more ready right now.

Nice post. Rivera is my number one choice right now.

No problem. And again, just to clarify, these guys may not even be on the Cowboys radar. They are just two of the names that kept coming up when I was talking with people about coordinators who would make good NFL head coaches. As one person told me, "Norv Turner is a great coordinator but he can't control an entire team. He's shown that in the past. The Cowboys need a guy to come in, take control and put his system in place. Right now, Ron Rivera in Chicago has the look of one of those guys. He always has everything in order and is an impressive person to talk with. He has a vision and has the ability to make it come out in his players. I'm shocked he's not a head coach yet."

Seeing he might be one of the candidates, I found that to be an interesting, and encouraging, statement should he get the job.

Thanks for the info - I think most signs point to both those guys being great choices -- Me, I'd like to see Singletary here. He's the biggest risk

Ummm, selling concessions at the stadium on Sunday's doesn't count as "They work in the NFL".

I think its time to take a chance on Rivera or somebody up and coming, I mean honestly could we do worse than the 34-32 BP. It's time to retool, it would have been anyway we couldn't have gotten any coaches to fill the vacancies we had even if BP had been here, think it was the defections that caused BP to leave..

Good stuff. Thanks for the info. I also like Rivera and he would be incredibly hungry to prove himself. I like the talk about his vision, organizational skills, etc. Ditka said he was a very smart player who understood the game as a player.
