A little game from the '90s

As we enter the playoffs, I thought it would be cool to play a little game. You can pick players from the '90s team to put on this team for the playoffs. The '90s players would come onto the team in their prime. Who do you pick?

The rules:

1. You get only two players. Offense, defense or special teams.

2. You can't pick one of the Triplets. As amazing as it would be to see Irvin lined up on the same offense as Irvin, it just wouldn't be fair.

3. Explain your picks.

For me:

1. Charles Haley. He was the one who put the '90s team over the top and I think he would do the same for this team. We are currently badly in need of an edge rusher and he would provide for that. Plus, he would add some meanness and attitude.

2. Darren Woodson. I almost went Deion here because we need a corner badly but I think Darren is a better pick. Deion was just too much about himself and this team is about the team. Maybe I am wrong though. Darren would lock down one safety spot and give leadership to the secondary.

So, who do you pick?

I like your choices, and you can't go wrong with Woodson, he was such an outstanding player and could cover like a third CB when we needed him too. He also killed on special teams.

But for me, Charles Haley and Leon Lett. I feel extremely comfortable with our offense, so I'd want to improve the defensive line. Lett had the two gaffs that everyone will remember, but he was an outstanding tackle. With Charles coming around the edge and Lett penetrating (and getting some timely blocks), I think we'd be set.

Lett would be a good choice. How about Russell Maryland? He was also solid as hell on that line.

I am going Haley and Erik Williams. They both had that intensity that would life this team to the next level. Both as mean as junkyard dogs, both would not ever let up. Haley was an elite playmaker that really never gets his just due. Williams would seal that right side of the line and keep the nasty at a high level for all 60 minutes.

Give me Haley and Kevin Williams, I think Williams would fit good in our scheme. Haley would be the disruptive force necessary to rattle opposing QBs

Lett would be a good choice. How about Russell Maryland? He was also solid as hell on that line.

I thought about Maryland too because he was such a high motor guy and relentless in his pursuit. Actually I'd take any two guys off of our DL from the 90's. I don't care if you give me Casillas, Tolbert... I'd take Jimmy Jones and be thrilled. If you could give me a prime Haley and Tolbert before his knees went I'd take those two bookends in a heartbeat and smile all the way to the Superbowl. I don't think there is a wrong answer on the DL.

When I read the rules, my first thoughts were Woodson and Haley... so we think alike.

(Picking Deion is too easy, plus I just don't like Deion.)

How 'bout we go with Moose on offense and I'll say Tony Tolbert on defense (with an honorable mention to Kevin Smith).

Erik Williams at RT and Larry Allen at LG. That would form an even more formidable offensive line.

Give me Hayley and Moose. Defense jumps up 2 notches and Moose would push this already dominant o-line over the top

Haley and Deion. Haley because we desperately need pass rush and Deion because we need a solid CB

Sanders and Haley. My reason for not going o-line is, we already have a well rounded o-line and going into the playoffs, I'm filling other voids. Otherwise this is redundant and I'm trying to make a better playoff team on both sides of the ball.

Also having Deion is a threat in all 3 phases of the game.

Many don't realize he did a great job against Jerry Rice when he was healthy....

That combo instantly upgrades our rush and coverage on the other teams top receiver/receivers when combined with Scandricks coverage ability

How about Jim Jeffcoat & Charles Hayley? Say good night to opposing quarterbacks! With what we have up the middle with Crawford & Melton but Hayley & Jeffcoat off the edges I bet our corners would start to look freaking amazing! I know Jeffcoat was more situational in the 90s run but in today's game I think he'd fit right in.

Deion, would be interesting seeing him lockdown Megatron and Jordy Nelson! Haley also, he would fit in great with this defense and give them a clutch pass rusher.........unlike a current Denver Bronco!

Haley and Leon Lett, a dominant pass rusher and tough run stopper. For all the flak he gets, Leon is responsible for causing big turnovers in SB 27 & 28 that change the complexion of both games. He was on his way to being the best at his position when all his suspensions happened, another what could have been.........
