It is always great to be 1-0 coming out of week 1. Do we have our own set of issues to work through? Yep.. Do we need to plug Brian Waters in ASAP? Yep.. Is Morris Claiborne going to give us all an exercise in patience? No doubt. Does the overall readiness of the offense deserve concern? Yep...

That said, our overall team effort was better than it has been in a long time. That defensive line was spectacular. Jason Hatcher balled out of his mind. Heck.. The front 7 as a whole was fun to watch and so incredibly composed. That front 7 is going to give us many reasons to smile as the season progresses if they all remain healthy. There is a renewed focus on the defensive side of the ball that will help carry the team until the offense hits it's stride.

Was it a beautifully executed display of winning football? No.. However, good teams find a way to win and occasionally they win ugly. We look very close to my 9-7 prediction but the real test comes next week.

Important takeaway: We held serve in a divisional game last night.

While the Chiefs game has no effect on the divisional goals, it is huge in terms of measuring the Boys against a team that is also headed in a positive direction. Bernadeau and Free scared the living crap out of me last night but the one guy that truly needs to yield to Brian Waters ASAP is Bernadeau.

Shout out to Selvie who will help Ware see a banner year if he remains healthy.

A little perspective.. We got off to the start everyone was hoping to experience and the film room will be busy preparing to make a strong run to 2-0 next week. I like our chances.

If there's one thing from last night that gives me hope is that the defense was flying around the field. Haven't seen that type of gang tackling mentality for many years. Still can't run the fricking ball though. That has me worried the most.

I thought Hayden played every bit as well as Hatcher did. He keeps playing the way he did last night and we have a keeper.

I think the run game will come together once we get Brian Waters acclimated and cemented next to Frederick. DeMarco had over 80 rushing yards and over100 all purpose yards. A yeoman's effort but still very eeffective.

I think everyone is a little gun shy about free because of last year. But his play was light years better. He played with very good leverage and good technique. I was very pleased with Free and did not worry about him at all

I was an original Free lover and took some heat when he fell off a bit. He is still serviceable at RT and will provide average value there. I don't think he will hurt us. Last night his footwork had me a little worried at times but, overall, a decent start.

Plug Brian Waters in and that GCG middle will be a very formidable anchor for the offensive line. Like most I'm sure.. I can't wait to see Brian Waters take the field.

I think it will let us run up inside and make the defenses play the outside run more honestly.

Most importantly, it will protect our 108 million investment quite nicely. We have zilch at the backup QB position.

I think it will let us run up inside and make the defenses play the outside run more honestly.

Bleu Star, you touched on the defensive line play. To add on that, what really impressed me was the fact that for once, injuries was not an excuse for us. For years, my perception of this team has been that injuries have too great of an impact on our team. We get nicked up at one spot, and the whole unit crumbles. Meanwhile, we can be facing a defense that loses two or three defensive backs yet we hardly notice.

Last night, minus half our defensive line, we generated steady pressure and held strong at the point of attack. We saw the emergence of new players such as Hayden and Selvie, guys who will help build a tremendous rotation for us once we get Spencer and Ratliff back.

It's only one game, but we potentially saw the start of depth emerging at a few positions where we previously thought we had none.

Before we get too carried away, remember that the Giant Oline is in pretty bad shape.

This would be exactly why I mentioned the real test in week two against an emerging KC team. Let's not forget our wonderful week one win last year. We then turned around and ran into a Seattle buzzsaw in week two. More perspective.

This is the type of game that we lose in 2012...the offense was lackluster (*** williams?), the defense got torched (almost 500 yards given up in 23 minutes of possession time), but they did force 5 TOs (6th by ST) and took two to the house, but last year's team would be sitting at 0-1 with that performance
