I love the draft almost as much as the Cowboys so excuse my way too early approach. Next year it appears we will need to seriously address the offensive and defensive lines (finally). Lucky for us, the 2011 Draft looks strong for linemen, especially defensive linemen.
O Line
Recent picks Robert Brewster and Sam Young look to be solid players. Kyle Kosier will be a free agent and Marc Colombo may be at a point where his play may not be up to his contract. Alex Barron is also set to become a free agent. Andre Gurode, Leonard Davis, and Doug Free are fixtures. Montrae Holland will most likely finish out his contract as a reserve or possible replacement for Kosier. We may be in the market for a starting left guard, a reserve center, and an athletic left tackle type (unless we feel Brewster is capable).
The 2011 draft has 3 centers that fall in the low 1st/high 2nd round range:
Stefen Wisniewski 6-3/298 Penn State
Mike Pouncey 6-5/312 Florida
Kris O'Dowd 6-4/305 USC
The guards are 2nd round/3rd round caliber at best. Some of the top names are:
Rodney Hudson 6-3/285 Florida State
John Moffitt 6-4/325 Wisconsin (the whole Wisconsin line looks like NFL prospects)
The tackles are always the coveted guys. Some really good players available:
Gabe Cirimi 6-7/320 Wisconsin
Nate Solder 6-8/302 Colorado
Joseph Barksdale 6-5/315 LSU
Anthony Castonzo 6-7/300 Boston College
Jason Pinkston 6-4/308 Pittsburgh
Lee Ziemba 6-6/320 Auburn
Underclassmen
Matt Reynolds 6-6/330 BYU
Josh Oglesby 6-8/330 Wisconsin
Nate Potter 6-6/293 Boise State (played Tackle and Guard)
D Line
Marcus Spears, Jason Hatcher, Stephen Bowen, and Junior Siavii are all free agents. Jay Ratliff is not going anywhere and Igor Olshansky will have another year on his deal. The team has made recent investments in Sean Lissemore (7th round pick), Josh Brent (7th round pick), and Marcus Dixon (2 years on the Practice Squad) but two of the three might not survive this year's final cut. We could be in the market for a starting DE and a reserve NT.
A very solid group of available players:
(I didn't include pass-rushing DE's since they would be OLB's in our 3-4.)
Adrian Clayborn DE 6-3/286 Iowa
Cameron Heyward DE 6-5/285 Ohio State
Marvin Austin DT (3-4 DE) 6-3/310 North Carolina
Allen Bailey DE 6-4/289 Miami
Stephen Paea NT 6-2/310 Oregon State
Jerrell Powe NT 6-2/328 Mississippi
Underclassmen
Marcell Dareus DE 6-3/305 Alabama
Jared Crick DE 6-6/285 Nebraska
Jurrell Casey NT 6-1/295 USC
Da'Quan Bowers DE 6-4/280 Clemson
If you add pass-rushers Greg Romeus (Pitt) and Robert Quinn (UNC) there may be 10 or more defensive linemen that could go in the first round. That should push one of them or another player we really want down to us.
