The lost story is just how well this defense played in the 2nd half. Just an incredible effort, and in my opinion, is the main reason we won. The offense was awful for 28 minutes of the first half, and the defense held it's own. then in the 2nd half, it really responded once the Dallas offense was able to put some pressure on the Detroit offense to answer. Take a look at the level of execution by the Dallas defense.

Drives: 4

Forced Turnovers: 2
Punt: 1
FG: 1
First Downs Allowed: 5
Time on field: 11:30 out of 30:00

Unbelievable how this unit stepped up.

We are a second half team, we have been all year. It is like our coaches gameplan really bad, but make the best halftime corrections ever. That is part of the reason I always laugh when I see people giving up on the game in the forums.

It's kind of weird, after the last few seasons, to watch a team where the defense has at least a reasonable chance of getting a stop when you need one. Even at the end of the game, I was sitting there thinking we had the odds slightly in our favor of getting a stop and winning the game. In past years, I'd be doing the math on how much time would be left for Tony and Co and whether or not he might be able to get them magically into FG range to tie it again.

Absolutely agree. Think about that "final" possession for a second. We forced a pair of game-ending turnovers there. Simply unreal, especially for a unit that is perceived to be a heavy liability every time it steps onto the field.

We surrendered, what, 6 points over the final three quarters? This to an offense where I would not have been surprised to see Tate and Johnson combine for 270-plus yards.

In Romo's postgame presser, he was asked about DLaw's mistake. He said that even though the Lions got the ball back, he just never thought they would drive down the field and score on this defense. He says going against them in 2 minute drills during practice, he knows how tough they are at the end of games.

Yeah, that's what most people thought in the game thread, too, iirc.

Yeah, I was thinking we were going to give up the game. I really was. But nope, these aren't the same ol Cowboys!
