Bet SF fans wish they could have a redo on that draft :laugh2:

Millen would probably pick mike Williams again if he had one :lmao2:

Ware is a once in a decade pass rusher though, wide receiver talent is easier to cultivate.

Tough for SF to pass up on Smith. They were given a lousy QB draft and had a guy that had some real promise, but was an unknown commodity. I think they could have developed him better, either have him sit for 3 years or not get him into a WCO. I always remember the Mike Williams pick because Merril Hoge kept saying that he and Leinart were not worth 1st round picks and Mel Kiper went nuts over it and Merril wound up making Kiper look like a fool.

We might have got the better RB in that draft too and we got him in the 4th round.

Insult to injury is that Aaron Rodgers turned out to be at least above average, I think Norv Turner arrived too late to salvage the shell shocked Alex Smith who at 20 years old was too young and immature to handle the very adult executive like pressures of professional quarterbacking.

I agree. I think Smith was waaaay to young to ever take an NFL snap.

Not to mention he came from an Urban Meyer offense.

If there was ever a QB who needed to sit a year or so it was Alex Smith.

Even Spears was a better pick than most so as bad as we may rail on spears at least he is productive I mean Mike Williams is a flat out bust

Mat Jones Mediocre and tons of off the field issues

Cedric Benson :lmao: why anyone thought he was a 1st round back I have no clue. I mean the last time he ever looked like a stud was Highschool he never impressed me at Texas

Now I give credit to Brown and Cadillac both have produced but Cadillac career has been derailed by a horrific knee injury not lack of talent he was looking good for Tampa before he blew out his knee. Brown was good then tore his ACL came back and he played well last year for Miami he is one of the reason they made it to the playoffs

Roddy White is the only one I wish we would have gotten and could have.
Spears is ok, but Roddy is a capable #1 and an outstanding #2.

I liked Mark Clayton at 22, he has turned out to be a pretty good WR. But ill say that even with all the bad picks the Cowboys have made, drafting Ware makes up for alot of it. Best player in the league in my opinon.

Matt Jones was still on the board at that point, you never know.

I remeber being very nervous about the Ware pick because he was from a small school and had only played at a high level for about a season and was virtually unknown, coupled with the fact that I had a hard time shaking the name Andre Ware from a Ware connection, i was initially upset that Merriman was passed up.

I didn't change my opinion of him until he dominated Carolina his rookie year, then I realized he was special.

I thought Marcus Spears was going to be Richard Seymour, still waiting for that to happen, so far he does just enough to earn the starting position.
In the 2003 Sugar Bowl though he made Oklahoma look terrible and showed speed as he picked off a pass for a touchdown, I want THAT player.

He's been out of shape too.

If he had Ratliff's motor he'd be a monster at either position.

im pretty sure marriman is a free agent next year.
and next year might be uncapped so we might be able to offer enough money to get him out of diego if we want.
that...would be cool....if he returns to form this year

Awesome first round Washington, no wonder you trade those picks away each year.

It makes me smile knowing that they took Carlos Rogers over Ware or Merriman, thanks! putting up with those two forces for the next decade would have been a toughie!

If he returns to form he'll be franchised, if he doesn't he wouldn't be worth what he'd ask for
