We heard a rumor recently that the Cowboys were interested in either Zaven Collins or Jamin Davis at 10.

Dan Bruglar says the Cowboys have a definite 1st rd grade on Collins.

Today there was a report that the Cowboys see Collins as a top 15 pick.

On the draft show Helmen said he has heard they are looking at the linebacker position at 10 more then he liked. Youmans said he is hearing they have interest in day 2 players at the position.

We heard this week the Cowboys were showing interest with the Iowa Linebacker

Reading the tea leaves, the linebacker position is of high priority and we shouldn't be surprised that they take one, even as high as rd 1. I can't see the team going into the season with Neal as one of their full time starters, I am starting to believe a top 50 pick will be used on the position if the board works out that way.

They should be highly interested in linebackers.

If they take Collins over Parsons at 10. I’ll be highly upset.

I would much prefer they wait until round 2, as opposed to taking Collins at 10.

It’s tragic. They spent a HIGH second round pick on Jaylon, and gave him a big contract and spent a first rounder on LVE and they have literally NOTHING to show for it.

And we wonder why the team isn’t anything more than average.

Tony Pauline from PFN is a very good insider over the years, he has Collins rated 15th on his big board, that exactly what we heard the Cowboys rated him. 10 is too high, but a small trade back is possible.

With a trade down. I’m fine with picking Collins. I like him as a player. Just not at 10. There will be better players than him available at 10.

I’m interested in adding a LB for sure, but what percentage of plays are 3 LB’s going to be on the field? Most likely will be less than 40%. We need a 3rd LB aside from Neal for LVE insurance and depth. That can be done with 1 of our 4 3rd/4th round picks in my opinion....unless somehow 1 of Parsons, JOK, Collins, or Davis make it to 44.

Browning, Bolton, Cox, or Moses in the 3rd would be great.

With the high interest they are showing at the position, expect major changes happening in the future with Jaylon, Lve. Remember, it's not just for next season, but the life of the contract. Very possible they decline Lve's option and release Jaylon next off-season when his cap hit is more affordable.

I can definitely see them drafting at least two at that position.

Don’t disagree, but I’m looking at it in terms of value in this draft. Barring a trade back or up, I don’t see a LB being a reasonable pick in the top 2 rounds...unless, like I said, 1 of Parsons, JOK, Davis, or Collins makes it to 44. Would you take a LB at 10? Or anyone at 44 besides those 4 already listed?

The value isn't there at 10, outside of Parsons, the others would be somewhat reaches. Perhaps Bolton might be worthy of the 44 pick, but that is probably a little early after his poor workout/measurements. However, his tape is real good.

Two things can be equally true:

  1. You’re right; it’s sad; and
  2. I’m happy they apparently recognize the deficiencies at the position although I’m not happy they didn’t cut bait with Jaylon when they could this off-season.

Absolutely. As sad as it is, cutting bait and reinvesting in the position to get LB’s who are actually good, is what needs to be done.

and I agree. I wanted Jaylon to be cut so bad this off season. Total liability out there.

I'd be truly stunned if Collins was the pick at 10.

I like him, and wouldn't halfway mind, I just don't see the team not dealing down if certain guys aren't there.

Well hopefully this isn’t a smokescreen and we hear Stephen after the draft saying, “we just never got the chance to get one”.......

Our LB room is ugly folks.

I think Bolton’s tape looks really good...within 10 yards of the LOS and inside the #’s. But I don’t think the testing #’s differ from the tape too much. He struggles trying to cover in space and playing sideline to sideline to be a sure thing as a 3 down LB IMO.

This is the slight burden of picking high in the draft IMO, the gap between 10, 44, and 75 makes it a lot tougher to wait on a prospect. A guy like Bolton won’t be the best value at 44, but probably won’t last until 75 either...in my opinion
