You're trying to gain the sympathy of Cowboys fans by imaging a scenario where it hurts the Cowboys, but fact is the rule is completely arbitrary and would just as likely help as hurt us.Hoofbite;3910150 said:Repeatedly clutch?
Imagine Romo throwing a TD only to have the ref come in and say that Shanahan called a timeout an instant before the snap.
That's not true. The referees are all lined up in their normal FG positions, with a ref standing on each sideline on the line of scrimmage. Those are the guys the coach moves next to.Hoofbite;3910332 said:That was another thing I noticed.
I can't imagine the ref is standing in his normal spot.
What happens if the coach calls the ref over and lets the play run? You have the ref out of position and unable to do his job.

I remember a Pats-Ravens MNF game from the Patriots' perfect regular season. Ravens were winning late, Pats had 4th and 1. Pats ran a hand off and were stopped cold in the backfield, but the play didn't count because Rex Ryan called a TO on the sidelines. So that's tough nookies on them.
