Too many of us are depressed about the inept defensive squad and its totally lost defensive coordinator. This time of the year, we should be on a high, optimistic and looking forward.
Things are not always so bad when they are bad and never as good as when everything is going well. Who could have predicted the KC Chiefs' horrible season, or the rise of the NE Patriots and Chicago Bears. Who could have predicted the mighty Detroit Lions being 8-8?
Now relax and travel with me on an optimistic trail. For New Years' sake.
We hire a promising, new defensive coordinator. JJ realizes, finally, his ways no longer work and he will listen to others, just like George Steinbrenner did in the mid 1990's.
The Cowboys sign four free agent defensive players, a safety, a corner, a DE and a LB.
Then the draft. With its first pick, Sonny Styles LB from Ohio State, a no brainer, can't miss, a large LB with defensive back history and great coverage skills. He does not miss tackles! With the second #1, we draft a great cover corner or a ferocious pass rushing DE, or in the alternative, move down a few spots and pick up 1-2 picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. We then need a Darren Woodson type safety.
We rehire Leon Lett as a DL coach. Randy White and Charles Haley are brought in to tutor pass rushing techniques throughout the offf-season workouts and training camp.
The new defensive coordinator whips up enthusiasm. "Ring out the old, bring on the new," a famous poet once wrote.
Keep dreaming for an optimistic New Year.
Then go to this song, NEW ATTITUDE by Patti LaBelle
Play the song with your eyes closed. We have suffered a bad dream. We need to turn the tables. Imagine. Dream hard of a new and improved defense, a majestic transformation with a new attitude!! A return to Cowboys' defensive prowess.
Runnin' hot
Runnin' cold
I was runnin' into overload
It was extreme
I took it so high
So low
So low, there was nowhere to go
Like a bad dream
Somehow the wires uncrossed [defense was horrible]
The tables were turned
Never knew I had such a lesson to learn
I'm feelin' good from my head to my shoes
Know where I'm goin' and I know what to do
I've tidied up my point of view [with a new defensive coordinator]
I got a new attitude
I'm in control, my worries are few
'Cause I've got love like I never knew
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh
I got a new attitude
I'm wearing a new dress [uniform], new hat [helmet]
Brand new ideals, as a matter of fact
I've changed for good
Must have been the cool night
New moon, slight change
Or that look in your eye
More than to figure, but I feel like I should, yes
Somehow the wires uncrossed
The tables were turned
Never knew I had such a lesson to learn
I'm feelin' good from my head to my shoes
Know where I'm goin' and I know what to do
I've tidied up my point of view {new and effective defensive coordinator]
I got a new attitude
I'm in control, my worries are few
'Cause I've got love like I never knew
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh
I got a new attitude
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh

Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh
I got a new attitude (Gonna feel it)
(Ooh) Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh
From my head to my shoes
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh
