This is just a small tidbit of info, and this thread probably won't run too long. I just thought I'd mention something to those that find it interesting.

As many know, a lot of people (including myself) hate the seafoam green pants the Cowboys wear with their white jerseys. Many think it needs to change to match the helmet, or simply eliminate the green and make it more blue tinted. A lot hoped a change would be made with the switch to Nike. It didn't happen.

One argument I have heard from time to time was that we would look like the Lions if we had pure silver pants and white jerseys. That was a valid point. But no longer. I have been researching changes other teams made with the new Nike uniforms, and discovered something about the Lions.

The Lions uniforms are no longer metallic silver. They have now switched to matte silver/gray.

This means that the Cowboys now being in silver pants, if it were to happen, would not be mistaken for the Lions, since the Cowboys pants would have the metallic sheen, and the Lions would not.

Another note about the pants. The office press release says this: "Color consolidation in the pant (3 blues to 1 consistent blue)."

Apparently before, in the pants themselves, we had three different blues. It seems Nike did do at least a little color coordinating and matched all the blues in the pants with the blues of the jersey. Although it is not very noticeable, and the helmet stripe is still Navy blue while the jersey is royal blue.

More about the other teams can be read about here: http://www.uni-watch.com/2012/04/04/team-by-team-breakdown-of-the-new-nikenfl-uniforms/

who controls the decision to switch the color?

I read somewhere (sorry, no link at the present time) that the pants are seafoam green due to color TV becoming more prominent. The team chose the color so it would show up better on TV. However, with HDTV, the pants now look odd, so the team was going to slowly transition over to a more metallic silver look over a few years.

The team didn't want to take the plunge and make the change all at once.

Give me BLUE pants that match the star. Or just use the white pants. It would look epic. :starspin

It really is ridiculous that the helmet and pants do not match. Also the helmet has navy blue stripes that don't even match the royal blue on the jersey. It's just a big mismatch of colors. I wouldn't mind the color of the pants if they match the color of the helmet.

Frustrating to say the least.

Exactly. The current state of our white uni getup is one big random mess of colors.

I like the color of our pants. We are unique. A quick glance at a uni and you can tell it's ours.
A Pontiac Aztec is unique also but for the same wrong reasons. "Hey their uniform is completely random and doesn't make any sense...It must be the cowboys!". Unique isn't always good.

To this day I still love the pants. The metallic look to the pants is very unique and iconic. Edgy, yet Classic.

In fact most casual fans or young fans that I have met over the years never notice the difference in shades unless I point them out to them. My own girlfriend had never noticed until I showed her.

I like our uniqueness when it cOmes to our uniforms. I loved the hole in Texas stadium.

Colors for jersey, pants, socks: White, royal blue, metallic silver-greenish blue.
Colors for helmet, gloves, shoes: metallic silver, navy blue, white.

This is one of my biggest Cowboy pet peeves. I don't mind the metallic silver-greenish blue, just as long as it matches with the rest of the uniform. Pick one uniform blue, one uniform shade of silver, and white, and I will be satisfied.

The navy blue on the helmet not matching the jersey and socks actually doesn't bother me all that much.

But the pants. Lord, the pants. :banghead:

I don't know, but the colors in the uniform pretty well match up to what Troy Aikman was wearing during the dynasty.

Just need to darken the numbers.

I'm glad you posted this. As you can see that often with Navy or dark blue numbers against white, it appears to black.

Also take into consideration a fabric color and helmet color are almost always different because of materials used. This is a big factor when designing color schemes.

Just because it looks good on a comPuter screen doesn't mean the fabric and helmets would look the same in real life. I have designed and editeded and ordered 100's of uniforms. Some people have no idea how difficult is is just to get a uniforms belt to match Pants or jerseys because of the difference in materials. Even simple things like the lights make shades of colors look completely different.
