A perfect example of espn Reporting (HA!)

Got a kick out of this while watching my friends set their fantasy line-ups:

from espn's fanatsy football report...CAN WE MAYBE CHECK SOMETHING BEFORE WE REPORT IT?!?!?!?!?!?

JUST ONE TIME YOU IDIOTS!!!

11:34 a.m. ET -- Calvin Johnson inactive -- ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that WR Calvin Johnson (knee, questionable) is inactive for the Lions after all. Guess he wasn't able to give it a go after warmups. With Johnson out, Bryant Johnson and Dennis Northcutt should see more work, not that either is a high-profile fantasy play.

11:19 a.m. ET -- Calvin Johnson expected to play -- ESPN's John Clayton reports that WR Calvin Johnson (knee, questionable) is expected to play. All reports late in the week were leaning that way, and the matchup does support Johnson being in most every fantasy lineup being that the Rams' defense is awful. Check for official word in a little bit, but if you're doing early planning, all looks OK for now.

Has anyone ever recalled seeing/reading John Clayton break a story ... of any kind?

Whenever I see his handsome face on TV, I know to expect to hear something I already knew ... or a very vague report with no substance of any kind.

The "man" has no sources. He has no skills as a reporter and he doesn't exactly have a face made for TV.

I don't see what was so hackish about the thread-starter's post. The media gives you a lot of reasons to hate them.

A lot can happen in 15 minutes..................

it clearly says that they think he wasn't able to go after warmups. Questionable is usually a game-time decision. Not sure why we're blasting ESPN on this one.

they were really going for the believable, nerdy look

Exactly. Clayton's report was probably posted either before or after warmups. Something probably happened during warmups that the training staff or coaches didn't like. So that changed the status of the player. Thats not hack reporting. Thats story developement after the earlier post.

Read the original 1119 report...good to go...good to play...all reports pointed to this...

THEN...errr...after warm-ups it's a no.

2 reporters within 25 minutes for the same organization reporting different things...again mistakes are understandable, but what happened to making sure you are correct (i.e fact checking) before you rush to print????

CHECK YOUR FACTS...no need to rush...and why isn't Clayton the one ammedning the story? Or, why didn't Clayton say this is pending workouts? NOT what he wrote...it's called porr journalism and rushing to be first...being right doesn't matter...TMZ journalism. (Actually TMZ is probably more credible)

Dude, I loved you grilling Werder and all, but I really think you're reaching here.

Unless the Cowboys are playing on there, I could really care less about their coverage.

:espn:

Thank God for the NFL Network.

Rly??

This is for fantasy football!! They always do stuff like this. It even says check back for official word.

There would be no facts to check. It's either he's on the active list or the inactive list. You can't know that until the lists come out.

I'm not sure where the personal agenda is here unless he's suddenly a Lions fan. And it's not irrational hatred if he posts something that is a fact that shows ESPN's lousiness.

I mean, they have their two main NFL reporters report two conflicting reports.

I could see your point if this was a rare occurance, but it happens all of the time over in Bristol. I guess they have their hands full with things like sexual harrassment, so they can't be bothered with things like their journalists being accurate.
