During the pre-game week, I read that Josh McCown was a Cowboy's fan when he grew up. Fact is his entire family loves this team. The reason he wears #12 is his admiration for Roger Staubach.

I also heard that he will be a free agent at the end of this season.

So...as if you don't know what is coming.

Would you make a move to sign this guy to play behind Bledsoe for the couple of years he has left?

Did you see enough good things in that terrible offensive performance by the Cards to make you think the kid has something?

He surely is a tough hombre.

And he throws a nice ball.

He is 26. Born on the 4th of July in 1979. Tom Cruise can play his part in ther film.

Any interest. I would imagine his love for this team might convince him to play behind Bledsoe for a year or so.

But he will have to lose his love for wearing #12.

So what say you?

If we didnt have Drew Henson waiting in the wings.. i would say sure in a heartbeat. But you have to know that Jerry is gonna make sure Drew gets every opportunity next year to excel and have the majority of snaps.

I know alot of people here like Tony Romo.. and i guess he's ok. But when it comes to being a long term top flight quarterback in the league, i just dont think he has it.

Henson has all the tools. He deserves a shot to play and prove what he can be.

The coaching staff loves Romo so I doubt we sign a "name" backup

If we are banking on Tony Romo as "the future", I wonder what exactly the coaches see the future as looking like. Sorry, but he does not excite me in the least. That has nothing to do with McCown, but how you could turn down McCown, but yet tout Romo does not make a great deal of sense.

This thread will soon be many many pages as all QB threads become.

IMHO, I doubt we'll change anything at QB for next season. I think they're content with developing Romo and Henson for now. It'll be Bledsoe's job again next year, and Henson and Romo will again battle for number 2...and hopefully both show good improvement. If neither do then I expect a big QB move in the 2007 draft or FA period.

I would love to see another player wear #12. if he was as good as the old #12. i like mccown, but i doubt the cards let him get away. BTW, there are a lot of cowboys fans playing for somebody else across the league.

Well, I doubt we would trade for McCown. If we go by what BP says, then three years is what you have to show something. Romo is in his third year and Henson will be going into his third year next season. That, to me, says that there is a possability of something changing at QB next year. If a can't miss FA is out there, then perhaps we might do something but I think it would be more likely we draft somebody and let either Romo or Henson go next season.

nope, will be too old by then. and isnt good anyways. he may be good enough to play for the cardinals, but will never be good enough for the boys.

I never said he was the future just that the coaches love him. I don't have any feelings either way about Romo. I'd rather draft a qb and let him learn behind Bledsoe for a year or two.

I actually like what I have seen from McCown at times. But I haven't seen Romo. It's possible that he's doing some really good things in practice. Players and coaches alike seem to have a lot of confidence in his ability to play. Add in the potential of Henson, and I don't know that the Cowboys will spend a lot of time looking at someone like McCown.

I can appreciate him growing up a Cowboy fan, since he's from Texas, but we'd do better to bring in someone via the draft to groom as our qb of the future. He hasn't shown enough for me to believe that he's anything more than a journeyman and he's been in the league, what four years and he can't rest the starting job away from a fading Kurt Warner. He is a better backup than what we have right now, but that's not saying much. He couldn't win more than say 30-40% of his starts and that wont get you to the playoffs if Bledsoe gets injured for a extended period.

McCown has already shown more than Romo and Henson put together. He has won in the NFL, he has passed for over 300 yards in the NFL. It's as no brainer as no brainer could be. I would much rather have him as the backup/future than the two unknowns.

I hope we don't wait that long. It would be better to draft a qb in 2006 so that he would have 2 years behind Bledsoe instead of just one. I didn't forget about Romo and Henson, I just don't consider them as potential starters or even backups. We would be in essence throwing away the season to give either of them a chance to start and I don't think Parcells has the patience anymore for longshots. He already realizes his mistake. Henson will either play like gangbusters in the 'offseason' or be gone and there's no reason to put all of our eggs in the 'Henson basket'.

I wouldn't count heavily on the stats from Zona. Most teams will get somewhere around 250 yards a game, at minimum, and Zona has no way to get them other than through the air.

NO! He's slower than Drew Bledsoe is at 33 and he can't throw deep. Marty is livid that management traded Cleo Lemon. I believe the coaching staff was higher on Lemon than Rivers, and that's not good.

I personally don't mind it at all, but I like his younger brother a little better. Patrick Ramsey also grew up a Cowboys fan. As did Warren Sapp.

I think few players actually end up ever playing for the team they loved growing up.

Just kidding, just kidding :D

Have you ever had a moment, when you read a post, innocently, a violent laugh escapes before you can open your mouth forcing a "snot rocket" to be launched onto your unsuspecting monitor?

Thanks to your post, I just experienced one of those moments :lmao2:
