Since the contract only goes into effect if he's reinstated does that mean it won't show up on overthecap.com until he's reinstated. by the way they still haven't updated lately.

More on Aldon Smith's contract: He will earn a $910,000 base salary and $40,625 every time he is on the active gameday roster, totaling $650,000. He has incentives totaling $2 million. If he reaches eight sacks, he will get $500,000, 10 sacks will earn him $1 million, 12 sacks equals $1.5 million and 14 sacks would net him $2 million. In addition to the bonus money, it equals a one-year deal worth up to $4 million.

Aldon Smith's contract with the Cowboys does not include any guaranteed money at signing, but once he is reinstated by the NFL, he will receive $90,000. Thirty days after reinstatement, he will get another $50,000. When he shows up for training camp, he will receive $100,000, another $100,000 after two preseason games and $100,000 at the end of the preseason. If he does not make the 53-man roster, the Cowboys would be on the hook for $440,000.

$440k flyer, well worth it!

And if they cut him before he makes the team, that low amount probably won't even hit the cap due to the 53 Rule.

I dont think it does , he wants to know if it shows on the cap TODAY or until hes reinstated, te money owed is one thing but if hes not reinstated I dont think we owe him a penny..so it shows now but comes off if hes not reinstated,, ?

There is no guaranteed money in Smith's deal, and his pre-September pay is staggered to add motivation to continue doing well. He will receiver $90,000 when he's reinstated and an additional $50,000 thirty days after, followed by a $100,000 payout when he reports to training camp, $100,000 more after he shows up for two preseason games and a final August payout of $100,000 at the end of the preseason -- per Todd Archer of ESPN. If Smith successfully reports to all of the above but fails to make the final roster, the Cowboys will only lose $440,000 total with the deal.

Basically, the team almost literally has nothing to lose, but potentially lots to gain. Smith is expected to be reinstated in 2020 by commissioner Roger Goodell, a separate source tells CBS Sports, which is yet another reason the Cowboys felt comfortable rolling the dice.

no not really, it shows the breakdown of the deal but no mention how the cap works for a player that hasn't been reinstated yet actually works..

does it immediately count against the cap? or not?

or does it work like when a retailer asks for a CC to make sure you have funds to purchase but doesnt actually charge the card but Authorize that amount and it temporarily is held against your available funds on that card?

Im sure the teams themselves have to act as it were a cap hit because they need to keep up with cap space should all the contracts become valid..

Until he is reinstated the contract can not be on the books. As far as the cap is concerned, it does not exist right now.
