A quick thought about Zimmer / Parcells

I see a lot of people on this board lumping Parcells in with Zimmer. I seem to remember Bill not trying to hard to Keep Zimmer a couple of years ago and then out of the Blue JJ signs him. In my opinion this is a true case of Bill not signing off on a deal that JJ made. So this whole time he has had to work with someone who is not completely on board with his philosophy and ideas. It's not that I think Zimmer doesn't want to win, it's that I think he believes that all the defenses problems are the fault of BP's defenseive philosophy and that if he does defense his way then things will be better. Unfortunately they are not. Zimmer is not a Parcells sign off and with the right coach BP can build a dominant defense. Just my thoughts.... yours?

Nice speculation, but that opens the door for some other questions: what other things is BP not on board with?

And why, for a coach termed a control freak, is he putting up with it? Money alone? His rep is getting tarnished this season, and it was an easier job in the studio. Much of this we'll never know for sure, but if there was no one more capable than Zimmer available when JJ allegedly kept him, what does that say?

Sometimes coaches go out near the top and let it stay that way, but it's a hard thing to do. Nostalgia tends to make the past even bigger than it is. For example, imagine if Jimmy Johnson had never taken the Miami job; how many more people might be wanting him back without the Dolphins track record to temper their enthusiasm.

We'll never know how good or bad Zimmer truly is until he goes somewhere else (subject to the talent there), just as we won't know how misused (or not) our defensive talent is, until the change is made. And if BP stays, and the staff is turned over, we'd better see substantially better results or the threads up to this point will pale compare to what's coming.

At the moment, letting Payton go to NO looks like a colossal mistake, but in a year or two, who knows?

BP's two biggest accomplishments here may be upgrading the talent and helping JJ sell a stadium. There are two playoff appearances in 4 years, but some serious stinkers for games as well. The next couple of weeks should give us some clues. JMO

you couldn't be closer to the truth

I'm not sure if Hostile (an admin on the board) wants me parading this around, and if not you can delete it Hostile......

but he PM'd me saying (not quote) that he recieved information from a very reliable source close to the team that Zimmer has never stopped stumping for the 4-3, that Parcells doesn't feel he's on board with the program, and that Zimmer has two chances of coming back next year... "slim, and none"

Zimmer was mediocre for 3 years before Parcells got here...since he has been DC, we've seen:

1) new HC, supposedly one who was a defensive genius
2) entirely different defensive assistants for position coaches
3) they changed defensive schemes
4) and most iimportant, VASTLY upgraded defensive talent...#1 picks have been used on Roy Williams, Terrance Newman, DeMarcus Ware & Marcus Spears...big time free agent dollars were used onthe like of Glover, Ferguson, Henry & Ayodele, they signed a guy who could start for alot of teams as a CB who only plays nickel D here (Glenn)...

Zimmer is absolutely a proven commodity...its proven he sux

Nice use of a dead celebrity to make your point, and selective quoting at that. Try the whole statement next time, which adds "until he goes somewhere else (subject to the talent there), just as we won't know how misused (or not) our defensive talent is, until the change is made".

Stevie Wonder might have been a better choice. LOL.

Zimmer's pass defenses in the past had their moments. Oh but it must have been the players. But we had Wannstedt and Campo and Davis and so on. But their records afterwards were sort of spotty too. So like I said, it takes time to know for sure.

I'm actually looking forward to the change. But neither of us can make it happen.

Funny .... Parcells has said that Zimmer has a good grasp of the 3-4 and has spoken highly of him.

he also said that Vinny gave us the best chance to win, and that Daleroy Stewart was gonna make some noise and crack the starting lineup

You forgot Bobby Carpenter who was 1st round pick. Also, Roy was drafted before Parcells arrived here but the point is well taken.
