A quick thought

If we're going to second guess last week as far as far as passing too much with the game still in hand, why not do it this week?

After Shishams missed FG with 7:06 left in the game, down by six we passed the ball 9 consecutive times. The result was our lone touchdown of the game.

This is the exact reason why I will rarely blame Garrett for games like the GB game when he tries to pass to win. Our passing game wasn't on track against Wash before the last drive, but they turned it on and got it done when they needed to.

When it comes down to needing to make plays, we're going to pass to win. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesnt.

However everytime something doesnt go their way in a game (GB) doesnt mean the opposite decision is going to get a wanted result.

We needed to score, and called NINE straight passes, and we marched down the field to score. That's even worse than what we did in GB with it a one-score game. There should be an out-cry right now.

That is why I kept saying hindsight is always 20/20. Last week we did not make plays in the passing game when they needed to, this week they did.

Lets also be happy that with the game on the line, our team rose to the occassion and got it done. Scored a TD and then picked the ball off the next time on defense. All that matters is the win.

7-3 next up Oakland.

you're so full of ish. when the passing game works Garrett gets the credit but when it doesn't it's all on the players execution.

I'm not giving Garrett credit. The players made the plays, especially the TD throw. That was all Romo and Crayton.

I'm saying it's easy to second guess when things dont go right. But we have the best chance to win when we pass the ball. I'm not saying all the time as you always need balance, but when we need plays, I think passing gives us the best chance to win.

I'm not going to second guess that coching decision when plays dont go our way, especially when they make as many mistakes as they did against GB (and even this game too)

One more thing...before the scoring drive we had a 2:1 run:pass ratio and we were down by six points.

I know I was SCREAMING at the TV to learn from his mistake in GB and run the ball in the redzone on the TD drive... Not only because we were killing them up the middle and I knew it would work, but mostly to just take some time off the clock and give our defense more of a breather... but hey, it worked and with that you can't complain...

That's all I want to hear. At least I dont see the complaining I did immediately following the game.

Run, pass. It doesn't make much difference. This offense is sputtering because it is so simple. Do the Cowboys have more than one running play? Pass plays are limited to sideline throws because no one can get separation over the middle.

Romo's TD was the result of a busted play.

The scary part is even the Crayton TD wasnt because of the playcall in any way what so ever, they showed the intial routes and not a single person nwas open, it was after it broke down and everyone started freelancing that someone came free.

I find it strange we don't have receivers getting open quickly. Look at any great passing team. The patriots, saints, et al, they have a lot of quick passes <10 yards that are the 1st or 2nd read.

Seems like when Romo drops back our WRs aren't getting open quickly enough.

I find it hard to believe that the issue is that "our receivers aren't good". With how far off most CBs in the league play, you would think we could have some quicker developing routes, granted Romo needs to be accurate.

We need more short routes...quick TE releases, drag routes, quick slants. At the stadium today. Waaay too many deep hitches, deep ins, deep posts etc.

EXACTLY

And the only reason the pass worked on that last drive was because the players finally found a sense of urgency. It looked like they were running a two minute drill...and I'm sure the Skins D was pretty tired they were on the field for a long time.

Could the fact that the O committed to the run earlier in the game contributed to the D being tired when we needed to score at the end?

It's an honest question, I'm not trying to be argumentative.

No doubt about that, but we dont really have any player that is that type of route runner. Ogletree would be great, but he's too raw. But we def. need more of a short passing game, there is no doubt about that.

Austin is probably our best bet, although I like him as our deep threat, albeit not on every play.
