So there have been many saying we need to rebuild. And you meant the entire team, Offense and Defense.
Well, the Offense didn't need to be rebuilt. That's a different thread.

So to the Defense, you wanted to blow it up, rebuild. That takes time and can't fix everything in a year, even though some want and think that. Seems that way anyway.

Ware, Hatcher are gone, now Lee is out for the year. Spencer is unknown, and Melton, as others returning from injury. FA's signed, drafted players, UDFA's signed and some are counting on them to make the team.

Claiborne and Carr coming off of injury / subpar season, Church was in his 1st year back from an injury. Wilcox, Heath, or whoever else was thrown out there last year, Matt Johnson, same question mark at S. Holloman in his 2nd year, Carter had a bad year.

So here is your rebuilt defense, you got what you wanted. But that's not the cause of the negativity about it, that will always be there for whatever reason.
But you know what, they will improve upon last year, by more than people think.

Here's too the New Doomsday Defense of the Young Guns [well a good amountof them are young]....

Yup, count me as one of the guys that wanted to start over but only because I was tired of a company man named Ware being the face of the defense. I also was one that couldn't wait for this defense to handed over to SLee. Now that Ware and Lee are gone, I'm only concerned about which of these young defenders takes over as the outright leader of the defense and will hold their teammates feet to the fire when they screw up or speak up when something is needed to be said. That job can not and i mean can not be SLees this year.

I say again, which young guy will step up. I'm hearing that Mincey has become the vocal leader and I hate it. One of these guys that has been here should assume that role for the simple fact that we don't even know how long Mincey will be here or if hell even be a longterm starter. With Lee out, I am looking forward to seeing if a guy like Church, Wilcox, Carter, Crawford, Mo, Lawrence or Melton (CUZ OF FA STATUS) can produce enough skins to become a staple of the defense for years to come like Lee. Mincey can be a spiritual leader on the mold of Brookings, but if he is the captain of the unit, then we are in serious trouble fellas.

Finding another if not more players this season that can become longterm starters/leaders will be just as interesting to me as the improvement of the overall unit.

Yes, good valid points. Maybe in TC, or during the 1st 3 or 4 games, we hopefully see one of the starters emerge and be that leader.

I like it. It is a much much less expensive defense and it can't be any worse than the extremely expensive 2013 Cowboys defense.

If a few young guys can step up, they'll have cap space to fill in around them in 2015.

is it a rebuild or just a plain build? Lets face facts, that defense was no defense last year. Nothing was working. This is a full blown build and at the right time. Dallas isnt going to make noise on their own, if they get a ton of help like last year, maybe, but to throw that away was a disgrace to watch. Short of other teams rolling over and i doubt they will, Dallas would be smart just to build from here and start all over.

Rod should take this opp and install everything so the guys learn from scratch, if that means start from the first step so be it. If that meant over the off season we had to lose to some players, all the better. Let him run thsi defense as he sees fit. He earned it. I am all for rewarding within and that guy had diddly to work with and still did very good.

Let him run it and lets see what he has.

Consider me happy w the rebuilding project as well. However, Im thinking this is more of a two or three year project than just one. Not exactly excited about the guys we have now. Although, I do prefer this than hanging on to the old guys

We knew it wouldn't be fixed in one year. Still better than overpaying old guys.

There's a difference between rebuilding and plugging holes. We are in a rebuild, the offense is done with the exception of a young QB which we'll draft next year. The defense is half rebuilt, but many positions are just stop gap and questions.

The key is that they really can rebuild now because of the lack of huge contracts on the defense.

Most defensive players that the Cowboys will want to keep are under contract.

This defense will only get better if the front 7 can dominate at the point of attack. If not, it will be the same results as last year.
