You would think that would of been enough incentive for them to find a way to get him restructured.

I believe Yankees did offer an extension but Boras talked A-Rod out of it and talked him into going FA. Boras made a mistake and A-Rod got sucked into it and Yankees lost $41 mil.

Not to mention that Hank Steinbrenner said before he opted out if he did opt out the Yankees wouldnt even consider re-signing him. That sends a great message.

Me personally, I'm glad the Rangers don't have to see him 20 times a year playing for the Mariners or Angels. Stay in the East.

I don't think they're saying that literally. I think that's how much he had to come off his demands. You don't sign a 10 year $275 mil contract with ______signing bonus and turn around and give up $21 million. Why not just sign a contract for $254 and be done with it if that's the case?

Actually it was $21 million total, I don't have the exact numbers in front of me but I think it was 6,6 and 9 million each of the next three seasons that Texas was going to send.
