I just noticed Rodgers and ware came out out the same draft and was wondering does anyone on here look back now and wish we had taken Rodgers at pick 11. Personally I am happy we got Ware. What do you guys think?

Nope. But I sure wouldn't be complaining if we'd picked him at 20 instead of Spears!

Both on are on a HOF track. One is the best offensive player in the NFL and one is the best defensive player in the NFL.

There are no wrong answers, however, Rogers is coming off the greatest single season (as measured by QB rating) in the entire long history of the NFL.... a great franchise QB can make up for weaknesses in so many other positions. OLB/DE just doesn't have the same impact as a position as QB.

Exactly why I would take the QB almost every time.

Well, its a bit ironic since the Packers wanted Ware and Spears over Rogers. Andrew Brandt (the cap guy for the Packers at the time) recently wrote about this on National Football Post.

They took Rogers because Ted Thompson stubbornly stuck to his "best remaining player available" on his draft board... even though Favre wasn't done yet.

If the Packers didn't draft Rogers he probably would have fallen into the second round.... which would have been amazing since up to about a week before the draft there were quite a few expert who thoughts Rogers would be the 1st pick overall.

At that time, Ware was more of a sure bet I would think. If I recall w/o searching, we had Vinny and Bledsoe at the helm which appeared to be sufficient enough to warrant a 1st rd pick on the defense.

Looking back, I am more than happy with Ware and Romo rather than Rogers and whoever else would have been drafted then.

I'd take a great passer over a great pass rusher any day.

If it were a straight up choice then I would take Rodgers any day - QB > LB

But for the circumstances, I would take Ware and Romo over Rodgers alone. IN other words, if we had taken Rodgers then we wouldn't have a great pass rusher. As it is we have a great QB AND a great pass rusher. :D

Cowboy had the opportunity to draft them both (Rogers instead of Spears) in the 1st round of that 2005 draft.

I wonder how that would have played out.

I lied.

We already have a great passer.

Exactly. Considering we already have a comparable player at Rodgers position, this is easy. Ware.

Plus, our passer is a lot cheaper.

I highly doubt that.

I doubt it too. We already have an elite QB. Replace him with Aaron Rodgers and you haven't addressed the issues on this team. Still no offensive line. Still weak on defense.

Yeah, I think I exaggerated a bit. I still think Rodgers = System.

If Rogers = System then Mike McCarthy is a heck of a OC / HC.

No matter how many times I see McCarthy on TV -- he just seems / sounds like a big lug to me. Obviously he isn't... but hard to get past the visual impression + listening to him speak.

I agree with this. With Rodgers here, we would never have hit on Romo (either cutting him or trading him ... to Green Bay) and we'd, in this scenario, also be missing one of the only successful components of our defense.

Rodgers would be without a championship here because of the defensive failings, and people would be wondering why we didn't keep Romo instead if he went off and had success somewhere like Green Bay.
