Yeah, I know, losing sucks...
But hey, think of it this way: 3 of our losses were almost exclusively the result of poor play by Drew Bledsoe. And honestly, this isn't a thread to bash Bledsoe. I actually like the guy. If he had played this year like he did last year, I think we'd have a better record than we do now & Tony Romo would still be a backup.
It's tough, and our record is what our record is. But when taken as a whole, I think there's room for some guesstimation. For instance, if Romo had strated the season, I believe we win the three games that Bledsoe lost us. I mean, clearly, the Jaguars game was in Bledsoe's lap. He was missing wide-open receivers all day. If he's "on" that day, we win by a landslide.
The first Eagles game I also blame on his very poor accuracy and decision-making. And the Giants loss? Well, we may have just been fated to lose that one. But if Romo had been the established starter going in, with 5 games of experience under his belt, I bet we walk out of there with the win.
And so, taking the season as a whole, yeah, our record is currently 9-6. But how much better would you be feeling if, as I surmise, Romo had been our starter from the start and our record being at least 2 games better? We'd be sitting at 11-4 or 12-3 right now, atop the division, the clear second-seed and probably considered one of the NFC favorites.
Most every team lays an egg or three during the season. I mean, look how Chicago got manhandled by Arizona early on in the year (even though Arizona choked big-time to lose the game). The Cowboys' Championship teams of the 90's, as phenomenal as they were, still lost between 3-5 games a season in every Superbowl year.
And while it doesn't help our current predicament in any way, I guess I take some solace (for the potential of the remaining season and for next year & beyond) that if Romo had started every game this year... despite how poorly we've played the past few weeks... we'd have one of the best records in the league and would be feeling a lot better overall about our team.
Don't give up on us, guys...
