Tonight sucked. I, like many others, expected this team to show up better prepared and ready for the Giants' physicality. They were not, and even worse, they couldn't even get their assignments right on defense. It was like Harbaugh knew where to attack on just about every play. This team was outcoached, outplayed, and outclassed.

Even so, it wasn't all negative. Downs pretty looked good out there and managed to make some nice plays. Barham is still raw, overthinking things, but a light seemed to come on when he was calling plays after 0 went down. He's not there yet, but i think he will end up developing into a really good MLB. Jalen Thompson made some nice plays. The defense wasn't entirely lifeless but it needs some serious work before it can be called serviceable.

I think the problem is a lack of serious pass rushing options outside of Williams. The Giants offense was able to neutralize him with extra blockers. Ideally, somebody receiving less attention should become more disruptive, but that didn't happen. Gary was a non-factor. EZ only got pressure when he went unblocked, and it looked like that was by design. I saw Malachi Lawrence on the field. Only play I saw him make was a tackle past the sticks several yards down the field. Did Justin Houson even suit up? Setting the edge was also a big proble.. There's a simple, expensive solution to this. I'm really curious to see if the owner/gm makes the call.

The defense is a work in progress. It looked pretty bad in the second half, completely unable to make a stop. It was hard to watch, but I'm hopeful that as these younger players develop, the defense will gradually improve. As the DC gains more experience, his GameDay play calling will improve. It was a complete disaster last season and not much better the season prior. Overnight worst to first expectations were a pipe dream. It's going to to take some time to get it right, but I'm more confident in this group than I was at any point over the last 2 years. I like the vision, but we need to see them produce on the field. Hopefully sooner than later.

Agreed. I would've liked to seen more from this group, but it is what it is. The biggest failure from last year was the inability and unwillingness to adapt after initial failures. That comes from stubborn coaching. I don't see that mistake being repeated by Christian Parker. Time will tell, but I think they'll be alright before the end of the year.

We're 1 week into the season. We have no idea what this team is. There are people on this forum calling for the DC to be fired after his first game as a defensive coordinator. Nevermind the fact that this defense has been terrible since Quinn left. A bit of perspective is important when evaluating performance based on a very limited data set. Maybe they get it right, maybe they don't, but calling it a lost season after week 1 is a loser's mentality.

You are just fooling yourself! We’ve been on this one way roller coaster for 30 years & other than the teams Jimmy built, this organization was never any good & won’t be without a Football person in charge of the entire team!

They got stymied and gashed by a poor offensive line. Guys line Jon Runyan and Schmitz are flat out bad. Schmitz made Mazi Smith look like a Pro Bowler. And they pushed us around. Week 1 or not, thats bad

If your defense first and foremost can't stop the run in the NFL, you're gonna get beat.

Everything else is a trickle down of negativity if you can't stop the run.
They couldn't all last year.

They couldn't tonight.

Stop the run and the rest of it will come together. If not, no DC or scheme is gonna change any of this type failure.

I agree that in today’s NFL, opening week doesn’t tell us a ton about where a team is headed.

Everything about tonight was disappointing, some of which centers around a new defensive coordinator who hopefully will learn from tonight.

But it’s hard for me to shake off some of the offensive miscues, especially the veteran QB’s inability to throw away a football at the end of the half and the running back’s braindead penalty as we were trying to claw our way back into the game.

Those sorts of mistakes just always seem to be part of our DNA.

You are just fooling yourself! We’ve been on this one way roller coaster for 30 years & other than the teams Jimmy built, this organization was never any good & won’t be without a Football person in charge of the entire team!

We can't predict the future with 100% certainty, and waving the white flag after a 1-score loss on the road in week 1 is premature. The message I'm trying to relay is that we need to give the brand new DC an opportunity to work out the kinks before throwing him on the hot seat. It's pretty simple.

The interception was a head scratcher. Definitely swung momentum back towards NY, and they rode that wave for the rest of the game. QB1, a ten year starter, needs to know better at this point. The taunting penalty needs to be addressed in front of the team. Don't know if the HC has the stones to make an impactful impression, but it could be an opportunity to wake the team up. Consistently ranking among the highest penalized teams in the league is embarrassing. Something has to give if they really care about taking the next step.

But maybe this week 1 was just an aberration, and the real Dallas Cowboys will show up from here on out.

I was not upset with the defense. I was upset with the conservative play calling on iffense in the the first half.

The Giants are intentionally built to be a more physically team the us. We are built to be a more skilled position team. However we for some reason wanted to try and prove we were more physical.
