Rex Ryan said rob Ryan is having lap band surgery like he had

Good for him. His weight just looked unhealthy to where surgery of some kind was the only thing that could help get him on the right track.

It worked well for Nate, although it was a slightly different procedure.

Hope it works.

Lap band surgery has around a 95% success rate these days and 80% of all who have the procedure eventually reach their desired weight. He'll be fine if he follows the rules.

That's almost never true, but it's certainly much easier to get the surgery and lose weight. Particularly if you work long hours and don't have time to prepare proper nutrition.

Ever hear of a diet, Rob?
This. I can't imagine anyone would want a band around their stomach. It's repulsive. Just eat less and exercise.

It's just a microcosm of what's wrong with our society and why we're in a trillion dollar deficit.

Procedures like lap band surgery is exactly what our healthcare system wants: money.

It comes down to diet and lifestyle and no surgery is going to help with that long-term.

I won't get into the politics of it, but I find having a band squishing your stomach to be a terrifying and idiotic idea.

amen. double amen

Probably needs it. I ran into him at the grocery store a few weeks ago (on the chip aisle, no kidding) and he's a big, big dude.

As some others said, I hope it works. Rex is just about as fat as he was before he got his. Guessing those endless M&Ms at staff meetings don't help.

No doubt, man.

I just said it looked unhealthy to where he couldn't accomplish his goal without a bit of an assist. With his lifestyle, his size, and some major changes, I didn't see how he could accomplish a huge amount of weight loss without it.

I'm glad he's getting it. He was moving into the Mark Mangino territory where it was uncomfortable/scary watching him stressing out on the sidelines.

I believe the lap band is necessary for some people. Look at Nate. It's not a "shortcut" for him. Even with the procedure he's still working out 2 hours a day. By the time you get that big you got all sorts of insulin resistance, joint and back pain, hormonal imbalances working against you. It's way beyond just eating a few Lean Cuisines and joining your local jazzercise class at that point. Sure, it would be nice if people stopped hit the brakes before it got to that point, but once you're there do whatever it takes to get out of it.

Band surgery is a terrible idea. I have friends who have had it. It isn't reverseable and causes a lot of problems.

My counterpart here at my office however has like 150lbs on this medical diet his doctor put him on. It's all soups and bars and 2x each week check ups by the doctors nutritionist. He literally is the heaviest loser ever in this program. It's amazing.

We have worked together the past 12 years and I don't even know who he is anymore. He had the worst health issues. He was easily 415lbs when he started.

He is nearing his goal of 230

Not surprised at all by this. I truly believe that unless absolutely necessary, any invasive procedure should be avoided. What Rob should really be doing, is getting a registered dietician to put him on a solid nutrition program. 30-60 minutes of exercise combined with the diet would do wonders for him. Sadly, lots of people want a "quick fix," but in the long run, it really won't be addressing the root problem.
