A Strategy for Jerry regarding Ellis...

This is mostly for amusement, and probably not highly practical...

What if Jerry gave Ellis agent the freedom to talk to whatever club he wanted and negotiate the parameters of a deal those teams would be willing to offer Greg?

Would anyone offer Greg more security than he has right now in Dallas? I doubt it given his age & achilles. But its an interesting idea that would put the ball squarely in Ellis court.

If we're so drastically underpaying you, prove it!

Now if Ellis were released I think he'd find a deal with someone, probably less money, and no more playing guarantees than he has in Dallas. But I think Ellis would sign it and proclaim how much better he's being treated though in reality it would simply be an attempt to save face.

These players who feel disrespected when their teams tell them the truth will play for others for even less as if that somehow proves their point (Trotter to Skins). Greg Ellis is similarly out of touch with reality.

I think Ellis would make a great coach, but by what he is doing now he won't be one for Dallas.

Can we get one of these with Ellis' head? :skins:

Ellis knows this but he feels the team owes him something b/c he took a bit of a homer deal to extend a few years back.

Yeah, what he really wants is for Dallas to now pay him ABOVE market wages to make up for paying below market on the front end of this deal.

That is really asking alot. And yet I feel for Ellis a bit in that he naively signed a deal that quickly became below market in what I think was indeed a sincere effort on his part to save cap room for others in order to build a winner. I think Ellis really believes he took one for the team only to see the rest of the team make out like bandits with cap room to spare.

Imagine how used you'd feel in that situation, especially when Dallas has no foreseable cap problems in their futureand you know Jerry is going to make a killing on his new stadium related issues to boot.

Nevertheless I think how Greg is handing it is doomed.

The more i think about it the more I really think that no man on Earth can be so stupid as to act as Ellis has acted. i really think that there is more going on here that we are privy to.

Strategy for Jerry?

Hmmm. I say Jerry brings him into his office and closes the door.

Then Jerry needs to go up to Greg and pimp slap him. I mean a real good pimp slap.

Then open up the door and send him back to practice.

I realize the desire to make things end well, but it simply won't.

Either Ellis relents as he usually does, or we simply move on.

But he will not get what he wants. No smart businessman, NFL or otherwise, would budge to his infantile tactics.

Amen, senor fozzy, ese, about Ellis being stupid

You'd think Ellis was in his late 20s, healthy (as in not coming off a SERIOUS injury), posting Pro Bowl numbers and a company guy

Instead its just the opposite

And he wants to rework a contract

sheesh

It's called chutpah (huootz-paw) up north
ballz in the ghettos
Huevos in the barrio
and 'Damn that guy is stupid in the South'

Jerra, Wade, cut the pouter before he hurts himself further!

You won't do the Boys any good by having a malcontent on the bench
or playing

Too many promising young guys who need playing time

Ellis is just taking up space and valuable playing time for the guys who are our future

Let him walk
Cut him
Tell him the farts of life

Just do something!!!

Exactly, Alexander.
You are pretty smart for a Brit
Yeah, no businessman would dance for Ellis the way he wants the team to

I want to see Spencer play a lot!
He's our future

Jerry could easily do a closed door deal with a handshake that would likely satisfy soneone like Ellis And Ellis could easily do that without the fan fare But like Fuzzy says there is nore to this than neets the eye

That is not a bad train of thought .......but, I believe Mr. Jones may offer him some performance incentives that could make him happy.....like get 10 sacks and get a big bonus.

Ellis is a little smarter than that. In his entire career he never saw a 10 sacks season. Now that he is older, coming off an injury, and top it of sharing time with Spencer. Thats three strikes against him seeing 10 sacks. Never going to happen.

Don't know if it will happen, but it would be a good idea. For all of his complaining over the last two offseasons, Ellis has been a good player for Dallas for many years now. Next year I can easily see him moving into a prominant rotational role similar to what Jim Jeffcoat did for several of his later years with Dallas and that worked out pretty good.

Maybe the better strategy is to let Ellis shop around but let him know while we might match it if cap allows, if he gets a lower contract (while he remains injuried) we also reserve the right to lower his contract until he proves he's healthy. Think Ellis takes that chance?
