OK I have to ask.
This may be a dumb question, but since OL can't move before the snap, how is Martin's tap on Fred's shoulder not considered a false start. I played OL in HS and would have been flagged for something like that.
I've wondered the same

I think they set for one second after he touched the center.
But you're right the rule has become so loosely applied but ridiculous you see you guys turn around right before the ball snapped makes life hell on a DL

I see a lot of people mentioning the 2nd block, but he actually blocked three players on this play.

With Martin and this line Elliott has a chance to take Smiths record and thats saying something. Lets hope the Cowboys run more next season and get away from the throwing fixation.

Where is the clip of he and Frederick being shoved into Elliot and Elliot hits Prescott like dominoes and Prescott fumbles?

He is a great example of how using your brain is really helpful. There have been players with similar physical ability that never got close to Martin's level of performance. He is not a freak of nature like Tyron but has incredible technique, awareness, timing, etc..

Great points. Brains & Brawn....

There was one play this year where he drove a player into the ground, got to the second level, pirouetted and seamlessly chucked the linebacker out of the way. Made it look easy. That was impressive.

His movement was not a forward movement. A false start has to simulate the start of a play, generally requiring an abrupt upward or forward motion.

Oh man.

Remember when people would spend their last breath defending guys like Costa, Nagy and Arkin?
You got me wrong. I was on the "those guys suck band wagon" from the word go. In fact in the upcoming dog days we can debate the "who sucked more", Costa or Shiver.

He shows pretty good short area quickness here. Literally does the 7/10 split in about a second.
No doubt he has great physical ability. I'm not saying that he is average. My point is that there have been players come through the NFL was similar physical ability whose performance was never more than average because they didn't have Martin's mental makeup. Jonathan Cooper is an example. Injuries might be partially to blame, but if Cooper had Martin's mental makeup, then Cooper could be a top 10 OG instead of being cut by 3 teams.

Yep, OL one of the most cerebral positions in sports. Besides the fact they spend 40 hours a week together, one quick tap told Fred everything he needed to know. Obviously not all OLs work nearly that well together either merely because of the mental part of the game.

He blocked three different guys on that play, knocking #50 out of the frame!!! Wow!

Interesting. I was once called for a false start for clenching my fist. I was in a 3 point stance and clenched the hand not on the ground. I remember this well because this was my first play in HS. (I never said I was a good OL:( )
