As Texas developed through being a Republic, and through dealing with Indians, invading Mexico, and on into recovery from the Civil War. It then had to overcome the boll weevil, and the challenge and gamble of the oil business...it warmed up to the sport of football. Football started at the level of High School, but then expanded into the professional levels. But as to outside locations, the opponents stuck to 'old money' and standards of an implied pecking order and relevance.

Murchison, came from the era of 'old money' and was able to carry the Cowboys, until cash flow was the issue. That is when Jerry Jones stepped out of the oil money and into the world of sport. But the fan took with him, elements of the very culture of Texas. The world against us...but a Texas fan is ready and let's get it on!

This was the picture of a Cowboys fan when the NFL said to Murchison, come in and take out the AFL in Dallas...but in a step-child level of help.

Wealth, in application, was wealthy, very wealthy, millionair, multi-millionaire, 500 million, and billionaire. Jerry, is currently at that top level.

Then, the storyline of a Cowboys fan in Texas, not in terms of wealth, was here...

A fan of football - the aspect of Texas life which seemed to give its noisier citizens the greatest boost was the Dallas Cowboys football then. Dubbed by an enthusiastic publicist 'America's Team,' it caught the nation's fancy, and year after year it's stalwarts appeared in the playoffs.

At the time, in obedience to the sage precepts established by Friday night high school football, young women were enrolled in the madness. The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders becoming famous for the skimpiest costumes and the sexiest routines.

A Cowboy's home game became a ritual at which devout Texans worshipped, for the players on the field were heroic and the cheerleaders along the sidelines irresistible.

Just as in high school football had solidified public enthusiasm in the small towns, so the Dallas Cowboys solidified public enthusiasm and loyalty across Texas and in many other parts of the nation.

The majority of the population remains poor...so their values include sacrifice and acceptance of goals and the fight required to sustain.

The heart of a Texan, stems from a group that chose to stand and fight at the Alamo...even if there appeared to be no hope for success beyond death itself. Not only that, but the Gonzalez 32. This group was at Gonzalez, and when the call for futile and a last request for help came to them, despite no chance for any success against a vastly superior force at war, these Texans chose to not only die with their brothers, but to fight to get into the Alamo to stand alongside their neighbors.

As a fan, root for your Cowboys...and don't forget one's own roots and reasons for commitment. After all, the unsaintly fight for the right reasons and your benefit as well.

Go Cowboys!!:starspin:

Nice rallying cry my friend. May have been best kept til the day before reg season rather than the day before pre-season though.

I'm an open type person...and see what you suggest. That's not a wrong view, only I like to get the ethics out there first, and watch integrity growing.
