A thought on Big Ben, TO, and Vick

Last year for a brief time Ben Roethlesberger's motorcycle wreck was the big story. It had briefly interrupted the TO signing with Dallas circus and once everyone knew that he would be okay the TO circus again became the focus of every story. Whether it was imitating Lance Armstrong, sleeping in meetings, dropping passes, or overdosing on pills he was the center of attention.

I don't think even TO could push Vick aside for the glare of the media crunch.

This is unreal. Not only are activist groups gearing up for a run at the spotlight but high powered political officials are too. I can only imagine what it's like on a Falcons forum.

I half expect ESPN to lead with "find out what Terrell Owens think sof the controversy surrounding Mike Vick." Don't tell me you can't hear Berman's voice in your head.

I've definitely been expecting them to tie TO into this somehow. Either by asking him about it or just as part of a general off the field issues piece.

It's not just been vick but also Pacman and Tank Johnson. TO defenders have always argued that he gets singled out even though his antics never involve breaking the law. With the new conduct policy plus the Vick thing it looks like those types of stories are getting all the attention this year.

Did you ever notice that every artist in the 70's and 80's that had a commercial for their greatest hits that you could not buy in stores always listed that as one of their greatest hits?

"Plus 5 more songs."

I always wondered how embarrassing those songs must have been if they couldn't tell you what they were in the 1.5 seconds it took to scroll 5 titles across the screen.

While the media does do its best to find ways to bash TO, he is not without blame. He puts himself out there often. My concern is that now that Vick is the big news that TO doesn't do something to get his name mentioned. He likes the limelight whether it is good or bad.

Two things I think I think...

1) I'm ecstatic that TO isn't the lead story every SportsCenter or headlines in every sports page.

2) I hope TO, with his never ending need to be in the spotlight, doesn't do something dumb to try to wrestle it away from Vick.
