Well, I refuse to get excited about Pete Prisco and his rankings in Feb. Prisco has proven to know squat anyway.

I don't know why anyone should get excited about some mediot thinks in Feb anyway, with regards to NFL.

You took the words right out of my mouth RCowboyFan.

No one knows who will do what in 2006 as we have yet to sign FAs or draft anyone. Let's at least get through the draft first before making any predictions.

Getting up in tuss about a power ranking is silly. This isn't college football.

Secondly, it's FEBRUARY. What type of idiot makes a power ranking in February. Teams haven't picked up FA's, draft picks, or even started mini-camps. No injuries, holdouts, etc.

A billion things can happen from now to September, and it usually does.

I know, makes me laugh and shake my head at the same time, I just hope its used as bulletin board material. I do notice an AFC lovefest in the media...and this kind of power ranking (top 5 teams from AFC) confirms it.

I wouldn't put any faith in that whatsoever. You really want to know how good your team is, go look at the betting lines to make next years superbowl. THose guys don't kid around, and their now biased. There is too much money at stake to be biased, unlike ANY sportswriter on earth. I think Dallas is a 10-1 shot to win the superbowl, which is pretty good. I think Washington is 20-1 or something like that.

I'd look at that stuff way before I ever looked at some sportswriters column in feb.

steelers could not even win their division. they got hot at the right time. But they are not the best team- which supposedly is what the power rankings are all about. They are not even the best team in their division. they are only about 4th best in the whole AFC.

These rankings are about who's the hot story as a player or coach, not about who has the best team. Each paragraph in the top 15 pimps a particular player or coach and fails to mention things like offense, defense, and special teams.

It's a glossy preview of what stories a media-outlet thinks it will be covering next year. What matters more to an article like this is who is the most exciting player or coach, not who is the best overall team. It's the job of the media to sell, not tell.

Seriously, who the **** cares?
It is an awful write up. This guy made ALL of his 2005-2006 season predictions WRONG!!!
http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/story/8816732

Look at that story, those are his beginning of the season predictions.
Now tell me if you really care about what this idiot has to say anymore.
Case closed.

what a moron...

the pats reign near the top is over...done...fin...terminado
jacksonville was like 9-1 against sub 500 teams last year, i believe they have a tougher schedule this year...cant see them being anywhere near a top 5 team...especially when we have akin ayodele

i do like where he has miami tho this team was on fire at the end of last year...they are getting real old on D though

he says this about the dolphins- "They have some quarterback worries, but Nick Saban and his quality staff have this team headed in the right direction. They could make a playoff push even if Gus Frerotte is still the quarterback."

then says this about the skins- "They had a heck of a year in 2005, but don't you get the feeling it will be a struggle to repeat that? Spending money on assistants doesn't overcome a talent issue."

is coaching important or isnt it?

as far as talent, i think the skins compare favorably to the fins.

boys fans, your thoughts?

btw- his predictions for the NFC last year are really close- if you flip them upside down.

after watching this year's superbowl, there are only two groups of teams in the league and it doesn't really matter what their rankings are within those groups
1) contenders: Indy, Dallas, NYG, Philly, Wash, Seattle, Chicago, Carolina, KC, Miami, Denver, Pitt, Cincy, Tampa, Jacksonville, NE, Atlanta
2) noncontenders: Houston, St Louis, Oakland, Minny, Cleveland, NYJ, 49ers, Arizona, Green Bay, Baltimore, New Orleans, Detroit, and whomever else I forgot....

The rationale is that just about any team from the contender realm could've ended up in the SB with a break here or there. Neither SB team was worth a crap IMO and we very well could've been there with a break or minus an injury or two, same for anyone else on that first list. I think the only thing that is clear cut in predictions is the above division of teams, putting numbers next to them doesn't mean a whole lot IMO.
Parity's a b**** aint it?

I agree 100%, just the whole power ranking ticked me off and made me laugh at the same time, because out of the contender list, the Commanders and Cowboys were put at the bottom.

I do agree with the rest of your post. During the whole SB I kept thinking "Skins could have won this if they played the way they did against Dallas in the 2nd game throughout the playoffs". I'm sure you thought the same about the Cowboys. The way they embarrassed Philly when Philly was full strength at the beginning of the season, was very impressive.

yeah, us Cowboys have to wonder what if Flo doesn't get hurt and our OL doesn't collapse? What then? We were really playing pretty well until then and our defense was getting better and better.
I know I was very surprised that the skins didn't beat Seattle in the playoffs. That was 100% Hasselback on Seattle's part and a few missed opportunities for the skins. Seattle is just flat out soft and I thought Washington's "hardnosedness" would grind out a win, esp after weaka** Alexander quit, like I figured he would. I also thought Carolina would beat Seattle for the same reasons. Must be nice to get homefield advantage after playing in the worst division in football all season and sandbagging easy wins. (See 49ers all through the 80s and 90s) Seattle goes to Wash or Carolina and I think they lose.
You know Philly has to be thinking..."what if McNubb wouldnt have gotten hurt early? What if TO isn't a jackhole? The NYG's are probably going "if only Eli didn't suck in big games like his brother...."
But yeah, I think any playoff team, plus a few that didn't make it...
i.e. KC, San Diego, Dallas....probably could've had a great chance in the playoffs with one or two breaks during the regular season given the parity that exists.

Oh yeah, you could argue that during the stretch where the Giants beat us 36-0 when their offense and defense was clicking, they were the best team in the NFC. There was a point where Carolina and Chicago were also considered the best team in the NFC this season. San Diego was playing unbelievable football at one point as well...and KC kicked major *** the last 2 games of the season.

I thought we'd beat Seattle as well. Our defense and special teams gave us 3 turnovers, yet we didn't perform well on offense and only scored 3 points. I don't see Seattle as head and shoulders above everyone else. We beat them in the regular season, and they stole two games during the regular season from Dallas and NY (and at Qwest field at that).

The exciting thing is that once any team is in the playoffs, anything can happen...its not like it was when Wash and Dallas were winning Super Bowls, when you could pretty much predetermine who would be in the NFC Championship before the playoffs even started.
