A Touch of Hostility... Week 1

Not sure what I was seeing in the first half? Some one help here!

Tony Romo was having to either tell offensive players where to line up, or else he wanted a different formation? He did not really have much time to look over the defense or anything, in many cases. The play clock was usually around 4 seconds or less.

Was this players not knowing the playbook or what?

Most have pointed out the obvious observations. The only one I'll make is regarding the Wildcat.

Whatever they were trying to do with that today, they should throw it out. Talk about a putrid play.

As usual, I liked some of the things I saw, and hated some things I saw. Let's break down both.

I like the first team Offense. The ball was spread all around and Martellus Bennett caused mismatches even if the ball was not thrown to him. Eventually it is going to be thrown to him and there are going to be teams scrambling to figure out what to do. The 2 TE set with 1 Back looked very good to me. The chains moved.

The question of the off season...Who will provide big plays now that Terrell Owens is gone? Answer...Tony Romo.

Romo was off today early. I mean really off. He was trailing receivers and he should have put the one to Bennett up high. Once the formations caused some mismatches the WRs broke long plays. Good scheming by Garrett. I had heard this was impossible.

I want to tip my hat to the Buccaneers. They played a lot better than I thought they could. Their O-line did a great job. Our Defense helped them do a great job by not tackling worth a crap.

Did anyone see what Flozell Adams did to draw an unnecessary roughness penalty? No false starts was nice.

Felix Jones is a handful. In open space I don' think anyone in the NFL is more dangerous right now. Loved that we used Barber at the end to pound the ball and kill the clock. I hate Prevent Defense. That last Tampa TD never should have happened.

Safety looks different now, but there are still some issues. Coverage is not one of them. Health might be. Sensabaugh put one hell of a lick on Clayton. I am amazed he hung onto that ball. The reason I say we might is because it still seems like teams are going to attack the middle of the field on Dallas. That's where the big wrecks happen.

Did I see takeaways taken away? Stupid penalties will screw you everything without kissing you first. It could have been a better showing. Dropped picks and not near enough pass pressure.

Anthony Spencer sure looked good though. I think there are positive signs.

I hate, and I do mean hate that we lost the time of possession battle. Worse yet we lost it by over 7 minutes. I love the quick strikes, but I want to wear teams down too.

Overall I am happy with the win. I still think there's a lot of room for improvement. I'll take ugly wins in September if we're healthy and rolling in December and January.
Another thing that I am pleased with is the special teams play. A FG was blocked and Jenkins walks into the endzone if he picks the ball up cleanly. Buehler had 2 touchbacks and on the rest of his kicks, he had enough hang time to allow the coverage unit to get down field. Filed position was not a problem all game long.

No turnovers; Romo didn't try to force things (Well he did on maybe two plays, but overall, I saw patience and also a few throw out of bounds which is good).

I imagined that the Cowboys would split Bennett out wide when he was drafted and it is good to see it in action. When the team gets comfortable with him there, watch out.

The run defense left a lot to be desired, but people must realize that the run is the strength of the Bucs team. Their new head coach even said that having a power house running team was their top priority, so we shouldn't be shocked that they are pretty good at it. They used the run to set up the pass very well and their pass protection was superb.

I thought I saw Savii in there at NT on some plays in the second half. He seemed to do a good job plugging gaps but I'll have to see the replay to make sure.

I've been wishing they would ditch the Wildshat since they 1st started talking about it.

  • Special teams was outstanding with the kickoffs of Buehler, field goal kicking of Folk and of course McBriar's punts.
  • MBIII looks much better, enough said.
  • Felix Jones didn't really do anything spectacular, but of course he didn't get a chance to.
  • Roy Williams looks to be a true number one receiver to me.
  • Miles Austin and Crayton look to be ready to have very nice seasons.

We gained like 4 yards on that play...

I was at the game,

How many Cowboys fans were there? From what we could see/hear, it looked the the stadium was overrun :)

I see the quote function continues to be cowboyjoe's Kryptonite.

Oh I know that they got a few yards out of it. I also know Choice took a big shot.

The play just didn't look like it was practiced enough. Not a smoothly set up formation and execution.

maybe running 1 wildcat play makes our next team waste time trying to think up ways to stop it

Did anyone else think there was no way Crayton could outrun two defenders to the end zone? Whatever he's doing, is working. I just hope they don't test him.

I think Flo leveled a guy downfield while Crayton was nearing the sideline. 50/50 call. I mean, he is deaf in one ear.

BBgun can screencap Flo stalking the guy in the BG on the replay

Shouldnt that still be 1st and 10 though??

Itll be better when whoever was supposed to flash in front of TC actually does it. Felix, Miles, ...Bennet.......Buehler :eek:hboy:

Id love a gif of Choice holding the ball out for no one

Im dreading the gif of Romo butt-slapping Witten....twice :(

I was wondering the same thing. They looked totally lost out there. Total confusion; or Tony changing the play?

Good post Hos. I do think your dislike of kickers is beginning to border on the insane though. They're part of the game, a huge part, and always have been and they always will be. To omit the fact that we got 3 Touchbacks today, which is HUGE considering we got 0 last year, and that it helped our special teams coverage on that unit is a gross over sight. In fact no mention of how good the special teams played, over all, today is just a glaring mistake on the post, IMHO.

But I agree with everything else.

I'd seek help, but I don't want to get better.

A lot. Probably somewhere around 40%. We were surrounded by Cowboys fans (which is great for high fiving after TDs!!!).
