A Touch of Hostility...Week 15

I said I wasn't going to get too high after wins. You can't get very high when the 4th quarter makes you clench your butt so tight that chair cushions require the jaws of life to extract them. I was sweating. We all were sweating. No way I wanted overtime.

I couldn't be more thrilled. If we had only taken care of business against the damned Giants I feel like we'd be in prime position to be a serious threat in the post season. To win the NFC East we need to take care of business the last 2 games. Getting too high on this win is fine for the fans, but the goal is not met. There is work to do.

Perhaps the best 1st quarter we have played all year. I think other than the two Saints drives in the 4th quarter it may have been our best Defensive effort all year because folks, that team can flat out score. Prior to tonight, their lowest point scoring game this season was 24 points vs. the Jets.

You know how I like weird stuff to share with you after the games. This is my paragraph for doing that. The Cowboys and Saints have now played 23 times. 3 of those 23 times have been on this calendar date. That's right, this is the 3rd time we have played the Saints on December 19. We are 3-0 against them on that date. Not only that but we have only won on that calendar date 4 times. 3 of the 4 times are against the Saints. Now do you believe?

Our longest active losing streak to any team was the 5 games to the Saints. That is now snapped. The new longest losing streak is to the Broncos at 4 games. We won't face them again until 2013. The game will be in Dallas and it has the possibility of being a Thanksgiving Day game on CBS.

Earlier this year Tony Romo did something he had never done before. He did not throw an interception in 3 straight games. He repeated that accomplishment last week vs. the Chargers. Tonight he made it 4 in a row and even bigger, he has not thrown one this December. The Cowboys are 1-2 in the hated month of December, but you cannot hang that on Tony Romo. Another thread already touted his stats and I won't steal that thunder. He has been awesome. By the way, tonight was his 7th 300+ yard passing game of the season. That matches his 2007 best and he has two games to set a personal best in that stat.

Miles Austin, welcome to the 1000 yard receiving club. He needed one yard to join that fraternity. He got 138 beyond that and a brilliant 49 yard score to get the game rolling for Dallas.

Did anyone besides me wonder if Barber wanted redemption for the last 2 weeks when he punched the 2 TDs in? I feel like his pride had been wounded and he had something to prove.

Time of possession is my favorite stat in the world other than the final score. I like it when we dominate the clock. We held the ball for almost 13 minutes more than the Saints tonight. That is how you beat an Offensive juggernaut. You deny them the ball.

We took the ball away 3 times tonight. I had to look at that 3 times and rub my eyes to make sure I was seeing it right. If we can start creating turnovers we will be so much better off. Jenkins almost had a 2nd one and he had some running room.

DeMarcus Ware, tonight I will hit my knees and I will once again thank the man above for you. If anyone ever questions his leadership again they need to be pointed towards this game. Playing with an injured neck and making the play that seals the game isn't big. It is beyond that. Not only did he get the sack which probably would have iced it anyway, he made it possible for Romo to take a knee. That is leadership, confidence, and aggression meeting in one play. I will be hoarse tomorrow. I may not sleep tonight. He did it twice. Sacks and forced fumbles on both plays. He is the man.

Do you remember when Anthony Spencer could not get to the QB, but the stats said he was getting the most pressure on the QB? He has so stepped up his game and at the greatest time he possibly could. I thought tonight was his best game this year for more than just the 2 sacks. He and Ware had Brees rattled at times. That is not an easy task ever.

I hate Kickers. I really don't want to say much beyond that. One of the things I hate most about Kickers is that guys put their guts on the field to get him into position for a chip shot FG and he doinks it. I hate it when teams kill themselves to get a Kicker down there and then the press talk about them winning it. I just hate Kickers. There is literally nothing about them that I care for. At one time I actually had confidence in him. Now I cringe. I thought when he hit the 1st one that it was over. What the hell was I doing thinking that? I ought to have my head examined. He's a freaking Kicker. They cannot be trusted.

Maybe that's what I can remind myself of so as not to get too high after this win. I believe that one was needed, timely, and faith restoring in a lot of ways. I will watch this game several times in the coming week. Count on it.

for so many reasons, some in here, some of my own (like us all, i'd wager) this game will go down as one of my all time favorites.

i know we could lose next week.

i know we could win the next 2 and hit the post-season on that high we're *all* looking for.

we all need in our own way.

but tonight we won. tonight we put it on the field and no one stopped til we were done. i know the 4th quarter was close and we lost ground but the saints have been doing that for a few weeks now and i really felt this week could be the week it caught up to them.

it fell into place for us and it felt good to come out and see what this team can do.

i only hope *we the fans* will find a way to put the shock journalists down and quit "feeding the trolls" because anyone who said the cowboys would lose 100-3 can't see the obvious.

the 3 was never a given. : )

but they feed on fears and weakness to make their own lack of skills mean more simply because of the position they're in, not what they say.

but who cares right now, hos. we won.

and this is a game i'll carry with me for a long long time.

i hope we all do, for all the right reasons.

I am not getting high on the win either.

It doesnt matter if we go and lay en egg against Washington.

Great win, now we need to do it two more times. We def. play best with our backs against the wall...now we just need to build off of this game and be consistent.

i *AM* getting high on it.

i know we have 2 more games to go through, but that won't stop me from being damn happy tonight. it's not like being happy we won will bring us bad karma next week.

Romo put an end to the Colts undefeated season years back and then he does it again to the Saints tonight....

I hesitate to say "Romo" as this is a TEAM sport, but since he and the coach are the only ones that get a W or an L next to their names.....

Nor sure if this has been mentioned, but I just read that this was the first time the Saints have been held under 20 points in the last 23 games. That's amazing.

Our defense doesn't get the credit it deserves.

Excellent post Hos and I KNOW you have to be enjoying this one. No way you can say you aren't enjoying this win.

From what I recall of that game against the Colts, both Romo and Ware had great games there too. I think Ware made the play that sealed the game when he knocked Marvin Harrison on 4th down late in the game.

Outside of the two Giants games and the first game against TB they have been very good all year.

They weren't even really terrible in the second game against the Giants but they made a few bad plays that sealed our fate.

You're right I can't. Sex is the only way I sleep tonight and it means I wake the wife up because she fell asleep before the game was over.

That won't work. :D

great win....

a few things bugged me though....we had some drops in a few crucial moments....those catches sustain drives.

I am officially ready.........#6 get the FOLK outta here already....the guy kicks FGs the way the Spurs shoot FTs...and that is a very scary and nerve racking thing

3 points off turnovers. Now one of them came to seal the game, but still, I would like to see at least 6-10 points off the other two. However, we are finally forcing turnovers, so baby steps. Once we start getting them with consistency, then we can work on converting them into points.

Millen as an announcer. He gave the Boys a few props, but for the most part, the guy was having a lovefest with Brees and the Saints. It was very annoying. Of course, I will take Millen over Joe Suck anyday.

Our 4th quarter tackling was poor. For 3 quarters we tackled everyone. However, in that last quarter, their ball carriers were quite squirrelly.

Im disappointed in Scandrick. He is getting used on a weekly basis. I hope it is just a sophmore slump and he will re-emerge next year.

Ok, enough with the negatives.....

I love me some Jenkins. I was critical with him after the Matador against the Giants last year, but he is a baller. He is our best CB.

I love the emergence of our #3 TE. Phillips showed a lot more than just blocking today. He picked a great game for his coming out party. Once we get Bennett back, our 3 TE sets are going to be lethal.

Ware is a warrior. I didnt want him playing out of fear for his health. Boy am I glad he did. He was a stud tonight.

Was it just me or did we get a Tree sighting? what a clutch grab by the Tree.

Ball made a huge play tonight....a TD saving play. It was one of the best coverages he has had as a pro.

Romo once again shows why he should be mentioned when discussing the top QBs in the league. Thank you Tony for helping me forget about the post-Aikman nightmare at QB.

Great win and bring on the Racial Slurs

Aww forget that crap...have a drink now Hos....have two!

This victory deserves it....YEAH!

GO COWBOYS!!!

CHEERS!

:beer2:

Two weeks ago I listened to Bobby Hebert lambast the Cowboys on the Saints' post game show. And for no apparent reason, other than he despised them for being called America's Team. He loudedly, and repeatedly stated that the Saints should wear that moniker. Tonight, he's not so loud. Tom Jackson...Keyshawn Johnson, you're next.

I posted it a few days ago, but Romo had played only one previous game on the 19th of a month.

That was when we beat the 9-0 Colts in 2006.

Earlier this year Tony Romo did something he had never done before. He did not throw an interception in 3 straight games. He repeated that accomplishment last week vs. the Chargers. Tonight he made it 4 in a row and even bigger, he has not thrown one this December.

Since the Giants game in Week 2, Romo has the lowest interception percentage in the league -- 422 passes and only four interceptions. That's a 0.95 interception percentage.

To put that in perspective, in NFL history, only one quarterback has ever gone a full season throwing more than 350 passes and having only four or fewer get intercepted. That was Steve DeBerg in 1990, when he had four interceptions in 444 attempts. Yes, Romo's first two games count (actually, it's just the second game that was bad, because he didn't get picked off in the opener), but that just shows how incredibly well he has protected the football in the past 12 games.

Like Billy Cundiff and Richie Cunningham before him Nick Folk has gone from celebrated foot to goat.

Very nice Hos, remember DWare was not only carted off the field last week, the guy has been playing in a cast with a fractured wrist AND a fractured foot!

The guy is incredible. Seriously.

Hos, there is no "Perhaps" about it!

That might have been the best first quarter since Opening Day of 1995 (with Emmitt's 60-yd touchdown run and Irvin's touchdown later in the 35-0 route on Monday Night Football).

Sure was nice to get some production from young pups like Ogletree and Phillips.

He is my favorite player by far. I just so admire the man it is not funny.

She isn't a sports fan. We are literally each others yin and yang. Opposites attract. I am loud. She is quiet. Polar opposites who fit perfectly.

...great post Hos...i did'nt think they could match the intensity and it got a little dicey after the Folk miss but the defense saw it through to the bitter end...CONGRATS to the Cowboys...the season lives on!

...Romo has learned that sometimes it's alright to lose some battles [sacks vs. INT's] as long as you win the WAR...

...Ogletree is going to make Williams sweat and perhaps Phillips will do the same to Bennett...this is a good thing though...

...my man Spencer...right on a cue...i thought he would come better toward season's end...he's doing just that...i still think he's better but we'll see...if Ware "the invincible" and Spencer can continue this level then Dallas can compete with any team they will face...

...Carpenter is quietly earning his niche on defense...i'm not saying he's pro-bowl material just yet but...

...Nick Folk should be concerned about his future now...had Dallas lost that game he would've likely paid with his job...that's if someone has'nt already drawn up the pink-slip...Dallas can't have this uncertainty in the kicking game if they make the playoffs...most of the games will be on the road and you need everyone firing in that type of atmosphere...as i've said before, i think Folk has probably cost Dallas two wins this year...

...finally, Miles Austin...the stat line says it all and he's over 1k for the season...he was'nt perfect but CLUTCH when he needed to be...

...again, congrats all around to da 'Boys...savor the victory, Merry Christmas to all...drink, be merry, dance a jig and read about the Cowboys relevance once again...worry about the Commanders on saturday...
