It was a tale of two halves. Dallas had the edge in the first half and in the second half Minnesota's pass rush created havoc. Once again turnovers, penalties, and missed assignments sunk the ship.
Once again Dallas controlled the clock, racked up yardage, and played well enough to win, but lost. Once again it is because Dallas shot themselves in the foot.
I actually couldn't believe it when yet another Romo pass was tipped into an interception. I've never seen a guy so snake bit. I actually feel bad for Tony Romo. He's going to be made a goat and he doesn't deserve it.
Minnesota got 10 points off of turnovers and 7 on a kick return that changed the color of my eyes from green from genes, to green with envy. I have been saying for 2 seasons that I want someone to catch the kickoff, hit the accelerator and pay no attention to the scenery flying by. Last week I even mentioned letting Teddy Williams get a call up to try it. Percy Harvin's TD was a nightmare that is my dream. We continue to jog to the 20 yard line and hope to make it to the 25. I thought we'd get past that habit with AOA. So far, not so much.
There are three penalties that really stick in my craw right now. The first was the celebration penalty on Miles Austin. I did get to see my last week's snafu idea on kicking out of bounds happen and be costly. Lesson learned. I would like it if our guys quit celebrating altogether. Just take care of business.
The second was the penalty on Austin's TD that took 7 points off the board. Nothing wrong with the call, I just think it is indicative of how penalties are killing us. The last was the penalty on Dez's Punt Return. Same reason as above, it killed potential momentum.
Others were ill timed too, but those 3 made me cringe.
I knew that sooner or later Doug Free would have a poor game and draw some fan ire, but I did not expect him to imitate Cory Procter on a play ever.
I am glad that Roy Williams is completely out of the doghouse. Well, except for the price paid to acquire him and his salary. His last catch saved Tony Romo from a 3rd INT. I've been saying this is his last year in Dallas. Maybe not if he keeps it up.
Well, you finally got a run focused game plan. I wish the results had been a little better. Minnesota played very good in the 2nd half in particular. I have always liked Winfield. I think he is the type of CB who can win you games because he plays so tough.
I thought our run defense was really good against the best RB in the NFL. In the first half we dropped Favre like a bad habit. He may be old and a drama queen, but that old geezer is a player. I enjoy watching him play, but hate it that he has figured out how to beat us since he joined Brad Childress. It was more fun to watch him when he couldn't beat us.
Moss on the other hand can't lose against us. 8-0. I'll be glad when he retires. He is the curse of 1998 and we're still paying for it.
I know this will piss a lot of people off, but I still don't think the Cowboys are a bad team. They may never climb out of this hole though. They have to go on a long winning streak and begin to believe in themselves or it is over. I would prefer the players stop talking to the media. It isn't a big thing, but spending minutes of their day thinking about what is wrong are wasted time. They need to hit the trenches until they are out of the ditch.
This week will be a plethora of fire every coach on the team threads and everyone will get benched. Those things will never happen but frustration is going to reign supreme around here. It is to be expected.
No two ways around it. It is a tale of two halves. The first half of the season is a colossal mess. If the Cowboys want to end on any kind of high note, the second half of this season is going to need to be one hell of a high note. 1-4 is a sour song and a bitter pill. So forgive your fellow fans when they are pissed. It's the only emotion that makes sense to some folks in times like this.
