Well said Reid. It would be cool if we all raised a glass in honor of CC before next week’s game.
I have an idea. You might remember on the old DC.com boards, CouchCoach used to start the "What'cha Cookin' " threads on game days like what @Ranching does here (when he isn't banned, lol). I don't cook but I used to go in there to browse the creativity and salivate because I love food. Maybe one of the Mods can start an official CouchCoach "What'cha Cookin' " thread on Saturday (since we have an early game Sunday) and dedicate it to him (or maybe wait until the ultimate what'cha cookin' day - Thanksgiving). People can contribute what they're going to cook or just pop in to say what they'll have in a glass to raise to him before/during/after the game.

Holy Smoke. I typically wouldn't pay much attention to something like this with a guy I never met, but he not only was a staple here, but easily one of the most reasonable and enjoyable posters. I always looked forward to reading his comments.. He really was a valuable member here, and he will be missed.

It's interesting, how times like these can bring a man (a woman) back to his senses.

We bicker and fuss and argue and attack people over matters of a football game and whether our team and its players are doing the right thing to win.

Yet, we forget the people behind the post. Then, we consider posters like Couchcoach, who went through a life-altering struggle bigger than whether Dak should be the starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys. I betcha that was furthest from CC's mind.

So, as we pay honor and tribute to CC, let's be mindful of the fact that every poster here has a life, and we don't know what their struggles are. So, even as we disagree, let's remember to put some humanity in it and try to utterly crush someone because he/she holds a contrary position to ours.

And, I'm speaking to myself as much as I'm encouraging others.

Pouring some orange juice (I'm not an alcohol man) on the ground in honor to CC.

Where I come from, we believe the journey never ends, it continues from one dimension to another. I did not know him well but seeing all this outpouring of love, I believe he was truly a good soul. I hope his next chapter is full of love, happiness and peace. RIP brother and I hope you are reunited with the ones you truly loved.

May his next dimension be one where the Cowboys are the team of the current Decade.

I am sad to announce we have recently lost an irreplaceable member of our fan community here at The Zone. Michael Baer, aka “CouchCoach” has passed away after a long illness which was confirmed by his son today. Like me, many of you have noticed his absence of late and missed his always fun and interesting insights here.

I have known CC for over a decade going back to the days of the old Cowboys forum on the team site. He was always gracious and funny with a sharp and insightful wit and a wise contributor to all the topics he visited.

Reading his posts were not only interesting and smile inducing, they also were often full of wisdom and insight to life itself. His writing style was incredibly witty, clever and off beat, often bringing insights into not only football but many topics of life. We communicated frequently through PMs the last year and a half talking about his health and the challenges he faced. He never lost his sense of humor or wit in the face of pain and decline.

Many times in the last year, Couch Coach wrote in great detail and eloquence in the “Morning Pops” thread of his long and difficult health journey. If you’ve never read them, it might be worth your time to revisit what he wrote and take note of how gracious he remained to the end.

His last post on our forum was made on Sept.19th when he welcomed a new member (which he often did) by simply saying, “Welcome to the best sports site.” It was the last thing he wrote here.

His kindness was always upfront. His humor was quick and top shelf; never at the expense of someone else and often self deprecating. He loved the Cowboys but had long ago let go of basing his happiness on their success.

One way we can ALL honor our dear friend is by following his example - don’t take yourself or your points on this forum too seriously. Being kind to our fellow fans is way more important than being right.

Any time any one of us takes the time to welcome a new member to the forum, or encourages someone here, or reminds us that life is more important than what happens to the Cowboys each week, we should remember Michael “Couch Coach” Baer.

Rest in peace brother. You are deeply missed.
Go Cowboys!
This is terrible news. Always found him to be funny and insightful. Always a gentleman. May he rest in peace.

"Couchcoach wants to know - Whatcha cookin'??"

Another great idea, especially for those who don't drink.
