If the news broke out that Jimmy was replacing Garrett, how would you feel about it?

Yes or no?

(move to off topic if you wish)

It depends on who he had surrounding him.

Jimmy Johnson's offenses were sketchy when he had Dave Shula as offensive coordinator. They were suddenly grand when he had Norv Turner.

Mr. Extenze was a very good decision maker and disciplinarian, but he really didn't have his own system per se. It all depends on who he had surrounding him.

I'm talking immediately...no change in personnel.

Anyway, I tried to delete this post after I posted it, but it timed out!

It's a dumb question anyway.

It would depend. Does this mean Jerry steps back and gives the keys to Jimmy? In that case, hells yes.

It not then I'd rather stick with Garrett. I'd rather look for the next great coach in team history rather than attempt to reinvent the past. You bring back Jimmy and two years down the road he's daydreaming of fishing.

No, no, no, no, no. When was the last time he coached?
It's a good point. I'm saying yes on the risky assumption that he can acclimate to the times.

Damn good question, but I would rather have Garrett. There would be way too many IFs surrounding Jimmy at this point, considering he has been away from the game for so long.

I guess that's why they always say, walk lightly but carry a big 'supply of Extenze.'

Aside from needing an endless supply of hair spray for the mindless number of media filmings around Valley Ranch...well, Jimmy Johnson, by choice and character, was even more prone to moving on short order, than was Bill Parcells.

He would fuse the emotional elements of the team, more strongly, but when one views the youthful timetable for change, and the usual four year departure for Jimmy the Coach...well, it just wouldn't work out with needed transitions as well. He came in originally, and helped to write the entire picture worked from Now, it just wouldn't be the same...as are most old and formerly cherished memories.

Uh, so I take it you prefer Garrett? :D

I have a feeling it would be very much like how Joe Gibbs returned to coach the Commanders. He won three(?) Super Bowls for the Commanders in his first stint as their head coach, but was a real disappointment the second time around.

I don't think Jimmy would fare well in his return to Dallas either. Attempts at "returning to glory," I think, often turn out disappointingly.

JJ's magic left with the triplets. His drafting in Miami was, as The Chuckster says "turrible".

If this were the 60's, 70's, 80's or even early 90's, I would say yes to Jimmy Johnson. However, the days of meshing old Super Bowl winning coaches with rosters of this era to achieve grand results is dead in my opinion.

I had held out some hope of that not being true with Bill Parcells return to coaching in Dallas. These days, it is a necessity for players to either enjoy fresh coaching or longevity coaching they will tolerate. There is too much money and transparent fame for guys like Johnson to overcome--perhaps over to short-term, but not long-term.

All things considered, NO to Jimmy reemerging and replacing Jason. I loved Jimmy, but his time and all that went into his success with the Cowboys has passed. I throw my full support solidly behind Jason Garrett and what he seems to be building as our head coach.

Say something enough and all the sheep start repeating it.
