Is anybody else worried that we've spent a lot of money in the past 4 months signing a bunch of average players to long term extensions for fairly big money?

I'm talking about the new deals Spears, Scandrick, and Sensabaugh have signed this season. Are there others I am missing?

All of those guys just seem to me to to be the epitome of average. Why are we locking them up long term?

Good question, no clue. May be they are expecting the cap will go way higher and what we are paying now will become average salary 2 years from now.

Also, we can't let free agent draft picks play instead of them. We tried that approach with OL this year. May be we will try with DL next year

You can throw Free in there for average to bad players that were signed for too much.

It just feels like we are too quick on extending some of our players and may be overpaying.

Example: We paid Miles Austin to a 6 year 56 million dollar (18 million guaranteed) extension after 2009 after one good season.

Did he deserve that kind of contract? Has he proved worthy of that kind of contract since he signed it?

As a counter-example, the Packers last month signed Jordy Nelson to a 3 year 13 million dollar extension.

Why are we paying such top dollar for these guys? Are we overpaying?

I think Scandrick and Sensy will be fine. We're probably on the hook for Spears for one more year, but I think they were decent signings. At least Spencer wasn't re-signed.

The Packers have perhaps the best front office in football, while we have Jerry Jones.

Next issue.

Do the Cowboys ever get the home-town discount?

Is this about Jerry showboating and showing that he has the deepest pockets in the NFL and that is more than happy to overpay for FAs?
