Wow, I remember hearing that Donald wasn't at training camp, but I had no idea that he still was a no show. While I think that Donald should play, since he has this year and an option year on his deal, I do get why arguably the best player defensive player in the league wants to get this deal done *before* he plays in this new defense. Many will argue that it sets a bad precedent, however, I'd say they were already in contract negotiations prior to the hold out, and quite frankly, he's Aaron Donald. Who ever comes next, simply isn't.
Considering that the rams were 4-12 last year with him, I don't think there will be tons of pressure on the Rams to get a deal done though. New HC, new staff, new GM, they can go 2-14 and still keep their job, main thing will be how much Jared Goff progresses to be honest. So with that being said, I can see this last quite a bit into the regular season. He *has* to show up for the final six games in order to receive credit for this season, otherwise he delays free agency a year and I believe he makes the same $1.8 million next year as opposed to what ever his salary would jump up to.
That being said, I wouldn't do anything this year, but if they don't reach a deal, Donald is a guy that I would give up multiple high draft picks for. Assuming we pick in the 25+ range again, I'd trade our 2018+2019 first to get him.
