Yesterday evening I was going East and West on a main street.

A beat up car with Darkly tinted windows was going North and South and they had the stop sign.

Well they stopped and then they just started creeping through the intersection that was there and the whole time im thinking HIT YOUR GAS.

The time had come to make a decision and it was either hit the car (T-Bone) or try to avoid it and somehow I pulled off a miracle turn and completely missed the car.

The turn was so great that I wasn't even mad at the guy. I just started yelling out WOOOOO for the miraculous turn I had just pulled off.

I had absolutely very little room to work with and no room for error and I pulled this turn off going at about 40 miles per hour.

Tires shreeked, people looked at me like I was nuts, and I was thinking Oh Wow I didn't hit anything.

It was youtube worthy....

Well anyways after my emotions had settled I started thinking about what if there had been a kid / adult where I turned and I had hit them. It would have taken a miracle for them to live.

My question is would their death / injury had been my fault for not just hitting the car?

I turned simply on instinct and it was a miracle that 0 damage was done.

You're lucky you didn't flip the car. I think it would have been their fault, but I don't know.

My 18 year old cousin did something similar in his truck. He was talking on his cell phone and made a right hand turn and at the last second saw a mother pushing her child in a stroller. He jerked the wheel to the left and flipped his truck onto another car. He was OK, but man did he get lucky. That would have been disasterous.

You'd be at fault unless you had third party witnesses to verify what you just explained. Because NO WAY the other guy would 'fess up to him MAKING you avoid him and hit someone..............

BTW, did you know that if you drive for UPS, it's ALWAYS your fault? Even if someone runs a stop sign or rear ends you? Not in the eyes of the law perhaps, but according to UPS policy............

I drove three "seasonal" times (during the holidays) for UPS when I was a young man. I never got hired on full time, but that's the usual way that every UPS driver ends up with a full time ride. Most, if not all drivers start off as "seasonal" for the holidays and then get hired on when openings come up..........which is not often.

Anyway, they spend a lot of time and money training every driver, hours and hours of class's and tests and field time before you ever drive. The logic is, is that there are thousands and thousands of UPS drivers out there every day. If every driver had even a "fender-bender" every week, it would cost the company untold dollars in lost profits. So the training includes "avoidance" skills, including that YOU SHOULD KNOW if someone is about to rear end you. You NEVER approach a stop sign or green light ASSUMING that the other guy will stop as he should. Your actually EXPECTED to be prepared for such things and take avoidance action.

You get rear-ended one to many times, and you're gonna' lose your ride. If someone else runs a red light and broad-sides you, you're gonna' lose your ride.

BTW, I never had an incident. I never got hired full-time because an opening never came up in the area (Houston) after my three go'rounds as a seasonal driver.................

I almost had a wreck yesterday too, but I wasn't saying Wooohooo, hehe.

I was going westbound on Indian School rd. here in Avondale and this lady that was right next to me just started moving over. I'm like "What the F are you doing?!". Luckily I had a good reaction time and swerved over into the median turn lane because she obviously wasn't moving back over. Thank god there was nobody in that lane or else I'd be screwed.

I am all for women's equality, but from my experiences on the road, women should not drive large SUV's. She didn't even wave sorry or anything. Dumb biotch.

OH BOY...............I'm not gonna' touch THAT with a ten foot poll!!

I had a similar incident, but in super-slow motion. I'm stopped at a red light, the first truck in line at the light. It's a three-lane road at the light, and I'm in the furthest lane to right. No one in the lane to my immediate left.

In my left side mirror, I see this black Buick 4-door, creeping up to stop at the light, going maybe 3 miles an hour, and she's drifting further and further to the right................SHE"S GONNA' HIT MY TRUCK!!! I'm watching this of course because it's seems like it's taking forever. But she's getting closer and closer to my truck, all at 3 miles an hour.

I'm waving and hollering and sticking my head out the window, but she's oblivious to this whole scenario. SURE 'NUFF..............she hit's me first @ the left-real fender, and proceeds, at 2 miles an hour, to grind her way to the left back door until she realizes what's going on!!! By the time she was done, I had significant dents and black paint over a 5-6ft span on the left side of my truck!

It was this 50 yr. old gal driving her dear old 80yr. old mother to the store. She was tending to something or other about her mom, wasn't watching, and just figured "What can go wrong at 3 miles an hour coming to a stop at a red light?" Not until she felt the bumping and heard the grinding did she pick her head up and turn the wheel left. TOO LATE NOW LADY!!!

My truck was good and messed up alright. Looked like someone took a sledge-hammer to it, a black sledge hammer. After we pulled over and she saw what she did, she was pretty broken up about it. With the little old lady sitting there, I gave the lady a break and didn't let her see how mad I was over something so avoidable and stupid. I couldn't open the back door, and had to drive around for a month or so like this.

It cost around $7,000.00 to fix everything...........................

Wow that is really crappy. Did her insurance at least cover it? Even so, it's a pain to deal with that kind of stuff.

I had a really minor accident once when I had jury duty and a lady backed into me. It was more of a pain getting the car fixed and dealing with rental car stuff. Of course the shop was only open during business hours so I had to take some time off work. They did a great job though and the lady's insurance covered it though.

Lately, I've heard some horror stories of people getting slammed into and the people just leave because they are either A) Illegal and/or B) have no insurance. I'd be so pissed!

I was in a store and I saw a guy get rear ended across the street. They both got out and as the "victim" was dailing numbers into his cellphone the driver at fault took it and threw it into the ditch. Then he drove off.

Oh yeah, her insurance covered it all right! She even called me a few weeks later to apologize again and ask if I got it fixed..............

Another one for ya (the "slow-motion" thing that drove me nuts)........

A guy who works for me shows up on a job site where they don't open the gates until 6:45 to enter for work. There's always a line of about 30 vehicles sitting at the gate, waiting to get in.

My guy, driving his own vehicle, is parked and having his coffee when they finally open the gate to let the construction workers in. The guy parked at the front of the pack is in the office/trailer at the site punching in and talking story when the gate opens. So, all the cars are going around his parked vehicle..............because he's no where to be found.

My guy clips his mirror and tweaks it pretty good. It's a mirror on a 14 year old Jeep that's held together with duct-tape and caulk!!! Anyway, my guy says "screw him, I'm not paying for it. He was the *** who left his vehicle out there blocking everyone from getting in". My thing is "None of my business, leave me out of it", since my guy was driving his own truck and not a company truck.

This guy proceeds to drive my guy and me crazy for the next six months over his tweaked mirror, and wants over $700.00 for a twisted mirror on a 1992 broken-down piece of crap!!! Every day, all day, that's all my guy heard. He called me every week, telling me that I should pay for it because it happened "on the job" and all. He's calling me now because my guy is telling where to pound sand over this!

Finally, my guy gave him $100.00 just to shut him up and make him go away.

Some people see a fender-bender or a scratch as a "cash-cow" to get themselves a new vehicle............................
