I posted this in a thread on another board when I saw "Terry Johnson", so I figured I might as well vent on this here.

Can we please stop with the "Terry" Johnson and "Adam" Jones crap?

They use their nicknames, Tank and Pacman, as their first names, because that's obviously what THEY prefer to be called. Just because you screw up a few times in life doesn't mean you deserve to have your name changed without your discretion.

To those guys, Terry and Adam are merely their "government names".

And for all we know, they HATE their government names, which is why they've embraced their nicknames so much.

Nobody calls Magic Johnson "Earvin Johnson".

Sorry, this has just something that has annoyed me a little lately. It seems I read "Adam Jones" here as often as "Pacman Jones" and there's simply no good reason for it. The name has nothing to do with their past troubles.

And I promise you that if Pacman does get his act together, it will have nothing to do with people calling him "Adam".

Despite their troubled pasts, do these guys not deserve the right to be called whatever they want to be called?

And I know Jerry has used "Adam" a few times recently, but I've got to believe that has more to do with PR than anything else. In all likelihood, Jerry hasn't even had that conversation with Pacman yet. And I've heard him use "Pacman" more often than "Adam".

But as fans, we have no good reason to call him that. NOBODY who has followed Pacman's collegiate and NFL career knows him as "Adam Jones".

Hey, Rip Hamilton got arrested for marijuana possession! Guess it's time to call him "Richard" now and retire "Rip" forever! :banghead:

Only his family and friends.
To the general public, he's Magic Johnson. Period. Perhaps he's not comfortable being called Earvin by those who don't know him well.

And perhaps Pacman and Tank are not comfortable with "Adam" and "Terry" in any situation.

We don't know... but what is crystal clear is that they prefer Pacman and Tank. There is no good reason for fans to call them anything different.

IDK I guess I'll call them by whatever name I choose. I'll most likely use both. Who gives a crap...

Evidently you do, hence your participation in the thread.

Why stop there? Let's toss out people's names altogether and just call people whatever we feel like, with no need for respect whatsoever. Okay, Doofus?

Its just like Galloways insistence on calling TO eldorado. its lame but people think it actually has some meaning.

Where were you when they were trying to hang "JuJo" on Julius Jones?
That one is still stuck in my craw and he's thousands of miles away.:banghead:

This has got to be the most useless thread I've seen in a while, even worse than all the Roy Williams threads. Congratulations.

It doesn't matter what anyone calls them.

Actually, all of the nicknames my friends and I gave each other when growing up were the result of usually one foolish incident.
ie: we call one guy "Poo-water" to this day because one day, he smelled like toilet water. It's sort of a respectful disrespect among pals.

For all you know, Pacman was a name given him by his buddies for some foolish act he regrets but it stuck. Maybe he doesn't like being called that. Do you know him personally?

Really, this is most pointless rant anyone has ever started a thread about.
Those guys make too much money to play a child's game and still act like foolish criminals so I'll call them whatever I want. I highly doubt they give a crap about what I want to be called and I wouldn't expect them too seeing as how they don't know me personally. I certainly wouldn't expect someone who's never met me to defend my nickname to a bunch of strangers the way you are.

I'll call Turd Jones and Butthead Johnson whatever I want.
That's the beauty of a nickname. You can make it whatever you want and it doesn't have to be used by anyone else.

Actually, Johnson's nickname is "Buck" and that is how he is known to his family and friends.

A sportswriter gave him the nickname "Magic" when he was in highschool.

Callings people names because they don't share your viewpoint on a subject is childish.

It's also against CZ policy.

Just FYI, there's no listing for Adam Jones on NFL.com. However, there IS a Pacman Jones. And when Mickey asked him what he preferred to be called, he said Pacman.
