This is probably correct. It is easy to relieve pain in 1or 2 ribs with an injection into the nerves which are carrying the pain to the brain. Drugs used were probanly marcaine or xylocaine. Vicodin,tramadol, percodan(oxycodone) would interfere with his mental alertness and would not be nearly as effective for pain relief as a nerve injection.
