I hate to say it, and I know I'll get some hate for it, but we are about to find out what Jerry Jones can build on his own. Our first good run under Jerry had a "football guy" around, Jimmy Johnson. Our next good run had another one, Bill Parcells AND THE GUYS PARCELLS brought into the scouting department.

I'm sorry, but I've never thought Jerry Jones was good at player evaluations. I think if you give him credit it is for spending and finding people who ARE good at it.

I hope he brings another football guy in, because if he doesn't I'm afraid of the results we will see.

He should get another try with all the experience he has gotten over the years.

You mean Jeff Ireland, who was in the organization before Parcells?

i second him brining a football guy in. to brining in a tennis guy or something. ...not to funny but yeah i agree somewhat but who else can we realistically bring in thats "better" than the garret-wade-sparano* trio. Unlikely any high caliber coach will come alone realistically .

Jerry is the one who built it to begin with. He brought in Ireland, Parcells, Garrett and Phillips. I just hope either Sparano or Garrett are around next season.

He's building a great big state of the art stadium. He built a team that won 3 Super Bowls. He built the current team. It's not like he's never had tinker toys before.

I think if Jerry sticks to staying away from drafting players with off the field issues and bad work ethic, he'll do at least okay.

Even if he went back to drafting the Derrick Ross and Antonio Bryant types and they work out initially, he'll eventually wind up drafting busts.

This is exactly what scares me to death...........Jimmy Johnson and Parcells are clearly tied to Dallas building up its roster during Jerry's ownership stint. The problem now is......what is going to attract top talent evaluators to this organization? Who do they learn from?

The JJ structures the organization, he needs a great talent evaluator as its HC since Jerry isn't one as a GM. When BP left, Dallas was fine IMO, because BP built the scouting dept up to be one of the best in the NFL. Now he's raiding it and there is really no compelling reason, aside from $$$$$$, for top talent to be attracted to Dallas.

He's always been best when surrounded by good football people. And not just good football scouts, but football people with strong personalities who had a large say in personnel. That was Jimmy and BP.

I'm sure we had some good scouts in the mid 90's into the 2000's. But the main person Jerry listened to was Lacewell.

Right now, I don't see that quality football man with the strong personality who will have a huge say in personnel that can help steer Jerry.

Who is that guy? I know Jerry always says he has final say, but who's the guy who helps Jerry make that final say?

Another Cowboys staffer joins the Dolphins

The Cowboys lost another staffer Saturday, but it wasn’t Tony Sparano or Jason Garrett.

Assistant director of pro scouting Brian Gaine, in his third season with the Cowboys, left the team to join the Miami Dolphins’ scouting department.
Gaine followed former Cowboys vice president of college and pro scouting Jeff Ireland, who became the Dolphins’ general manager on Wednesday.

When Cowboys owner Jerry Jones allowed Bill Parcells, the Dolphins new vice president of football operations, to hire Ireland, he did so with the understanding that the Dolphins might come after Sparano, but Jones expected his scouting department to remain intact.

He even said the presence of Gaine and assistant director of college scouting Tom Ciskowski would allow the team to move on without Ireland. But that changed when Gaine asked to join Parcells and Ireland in Miami.

According to a source, a frustrated Jones granted Gaine his wish Friday.

Sparano, the Cowboys’ assistant head coach/ offensive line coach, interviewed with the Dolphins and Ravens on Saturday for their vacant head coaching positions. Sparano, who joined the Cowboys in 2003, is believed to be the front-runner for the Dolphins job.

Jerry did.....as head coaches............Is Wade that type of talent evaluator? Is Jason Garrett?

My fear is the entire structure of the organization is now in flux. Maybe Garrett's not the guy long term anymore?

Maybe Jerry will have to pay somone like a GM, but hire them to a position similar to that of Ireland's to rebuild the scouting staff that Parcell's is raiding.

You missed my point. I said Jerry deserves credit when he brings in guys like Jimmy Johnson and Parcells. What I don't want is him playing "big boy" again like he did after Jimmy Johnson left and before Parcells showed up.

I thought that it was rumored that Gaine might be leaving for Miami since BP brought him here so i don't know why Jerry's frustrated unless Gaine told Jerry he'd stay and then backtracked.
