Tried to be, somewhat realistic in where I believe all of these players might go, in terms of value. This is not based on what I believe the Cowboys value but who I would like to draft. Lots of small schools here because, I don't actually believe we have a lot of major holes to fill. We really need depth and talent that we might be able to develop. That being said, here you go.......

1st Rd 19 Marcus Davenport DE - UTSA

2nd Rd. 50 Rashaan Evans MLB - Alabama

3rd Rd. 81 Michael Gallup WR - Colorado St.

4th Rd. 116 Nathan Shepard DT - Fort Hays St.

4th Rd. 137 Jalen Samuels RB - NCSt.

5th Rd. 171 Des Harrison OT - West Georgia

6th Rd. 192 PJ Hall DT - Sam Houston

6th Rd. 193 Perry Nickerson CB - Tulane

6th Rd. 208 Jordan Thomas TE - Mississippi St.

7th Rd. 236 Genard Avery LB - Memphis

Love it...but Rashaan Evans falling to 50 seems very optimistic abq

It might be. I've heard a lot of different things about how he is being viewed. He could be a second round guy. Now, would he be there at 50? I don't know.

Edit:

Having said that, if he didn't see 50, I might go with somebody like St. Brown in the second round and look for Jewell or Jefferson in the 3rd round.

If Evans makes it to #28, the Steelers would never pass him up. He's a perfect fit, and a desperate need.

I could see that. On the other hand, I could see them take a QB as well, right there. I could see them taking a RB to set themselves up to move on from Bell as well. They need a Safety pretty bad but I think the value there would be the same as if they took one later in the draft but, if Ronnie Harrison were there, they might go that way as well.

Something nobody talks about, but I could see as a possibility, is a possible trade up with Pittsburgh. If they truly wanted to get one of the three LBs, I could see them trading up to right around where we are to try and secure that guy. Just a thought.

That doesn't look like a Will McClay draft. Too many small school players. He has been in charge of our drafts for the 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 drafts. In those 4 drafts he took 28 players from the major conferences and Notre Dame (ACC, Big 12, Big 10, Pac 12, SEC). He has only taken 7 players from mid major conferences. You have him taking 3 major conference players and 7 mid major conference players in your draft. Here is a quote from Will McClay when it comes to small college programs versus big college programs:

”Man, we went into [the draft] looking for the best football players, first,” McClay said. “Guys that had the skill set that fit our deal, were from a big school. It was part of the discussion. You look at the big school, small school and you weigh those things and look at the history that’s been throughout the league, if 82 percent comes from major schools, well there is some reason for that.”

Look at his history of drafting. 28 out of 35 (80%) have been from large conference schools.

That being said, I like your draft (especially the first 4 picks).

Not it doesn't. That's why I made the point that this was not what I thought the Cowboys would do. It was what I would like to see us draft. If I were trying to draft what I thought the Cowboys would do, I would simply be late with every 2nd round selection from 50 on so that I didn't even have a second round pick I could screw up and then, just draft Power5 conference players the rest of the way.

Love the first four picks in this scenario. If everything really fell this way I would be estatic.

Don't think they would ever take a RB in the first round. If Evans or longshot Vea makes it to #19 I could also see a trade up with Dallas - maybe swapping 1st, 2nd and 3rd and we throw in Martavis Bryant. ;)

Of course, I think the last time they traded up in the 1st round was to get Polamalu, so it's a long shot.

I could see them taking a RB in the 1st round, if there was one they liked. I mean, the Steelers are sitting at 28, that's a good low spot so your at the low end of the wage scale for 1st round picks and you get the option for a 5th year, which is kinda nice if you pick the right back. At the end of 5 years, good chance you are going to want to move on at RB anyway so yeah, I could see it, even though historically, that's not what the Steelers do. Cap has changed a lot of stuff so yeah, maybe they look at it in that light. One thing about the Steelers, they value RB more then a lot of teams and they always have. They don't believe in paying them a lot of money but they definitely value backs who can move he chains.

So many of you guys have us taking RB's in the 3rd and 4th rounds....I don't get it...I could see maybe getting one with one of our 2 6th rounders or even an UDFA. rest looks good

we invested in Taco Charlton last year and have Lawrence. investing a first round pick (mid first round) on another DE who will be sharing time with others is not a good idea. I would have been much better with a DT, WR, LB or Saftey.

Evans won't last that far in the draft.

I like Jalen Samuels pick.

no TE?

Don't agree about DE. Stephen is on record as saying that an edge pass rusher is a priority for the team. That would suggest to me that the team is, in fact, looking for another DE. Also, Lawrence is playing on the tag. Lets say he doesn't settle for the contract terms being offered. At some point, you have to have a replacement for him or better yet, another DE who can bring pressure. Taco, to me, doesn't really look like that guy. We are setting a meeting up right now with DE Kony Ealy. I think we are definitely looking for help at DE.

Evans may not last to 50. If he doesn't, I cover what I might think about in the thread, in an earlier post.

I like Samuels as well. He can do a lot of stuff, including Hback stuff.

Jordan Thomas, Mississippi State is the TE selection.

I am not saying we should stop looking for another DE. I think there is room for improvement. always. but to invest a first round pick when we have other needs. not sure if that's going to necessarily improve the defense when saftey spot needs help and LB group is thin and we don't have a replacement for Lee nor a MLB.

I think we are judging Taco too soon and ready to cut cord because he didn't get 8 sacks as rookie. keep in mind he was a late first round pick. and we are picking 19 again. What do expect to get at DE in a thin draft. I am not ready to write of Charlton as many other are and again knowing we have dire needs at Saftey and LB spots, not sure another DE can help elevate this team.

if we tagged Lawrence. we could do it again. we have certainly shown we probably might do that, as we did it in the past.

sorry I missed the TE on the list. I would probably invest in a TE earlier than a RB. we are two deep at RB. looking for versatility. TE is old, unsettled and unimpressive.

I like it don’t think it will fall this way but I like it. probably would take Hines over Samuels. Getting Hall and Nickerson would be pretty sweet. I want Nickerson dude is a ball hawk.
