That's the scoreboard regarding teams that made the Sweet 16. Has there ever been a conference more overrated than the Big East this year? It's pathetic. And the 2 Big East teams who made it got there by playing other Big East teams in the Round-of-32. The 3 highly touted Big East teams that did not play other Big East teams in the Round of 32, ND, Pitt (has there ever been a more laughable #1 seed?) and WVA all lost quite handily.

I think it is hilarious. ESPN has been apologizing for the Big East all day with the line that "well two of those losses came against other Big East schools so they don't really count."

Funny how I have the exact opposite take. My take is 2 of their wins came against other big East schools so those don't count. :D

I love it. The ACC was getting hammered for it's poor teams, and they have 3 out of 4 teams who made the tourney still alive.

I'm struggling with who to pick between UNC and Marquette. It's like a win-win however it turns out. :D

The Mountain West sent three teams and two are still alive too. My Pac 10 only got one school in, but at least it's my Wildcats.

As a Big East fan, Louisville losing to Morehead was the only total surprise.

I am surprised by all of the negative feeling and comments about Big East basketball. I just didn't know that other conference's fans felt that way.

Kind of caught me off guard, but it's funny too.

I cut these quotes below from a Pittsburgh paper on Tuesday because this is how I look at a lot of it.
- - - - - - - - -

"The results obviously aren't what we were hoping for," Big East commissioner John Marinatto told the New York Times.

"For four months every team had a chance to build a resume, and for four months 11 teams earned their way in," said Dan Gavitt, the Big East associate commissioner for men's basketball. "Unfortunately, once everyone was 0-0, some teams played better than others. Some had tough losses, and some lost to opponents that played better."

ESPN analyst Jay Bilas even picked three of them - Pitt, Syracuse and Louisville - to advance to the Final Four. He did not apologize Monday.
"The Big East has underperformed in the tournament, there's no getting around that," he said. "But that doesn't mean it wasn't the best league during the year, and it doesn't mean they don't have the best and most competitive teams."

"But I said during the year I wouldn't be shocked if the Big East doesn't have any Final Four teams. There aren't as many (future pros) as there were before. The league wasn't as good as it was in 2009. It was better than any other league this year, but the tournament is not about leagues, it's about individual teams."

Bilas noted that the bottom had fallen out of Villanova's season heading into the tournament and that Georgetown and St. John's suffered injuries to key players down the stretch.

Notre Dame, he said, "got a really bad matchup" against an excellent defensive team "that was big and long and could get into their shooters."
Bilas, who likes to debunk conventional wisdom, blasted the popular theory that Big East teams struggle in the NCAA Tournament because they beat each other up all year.

"What happened with UConn?" he said. "They won five games in five days (in the Big East Tournament?) and won both their (NCAA) games with ease."

Statistical analyst Ken Pomeroy, who uses mathematical formulas to rank teams and conferences throughout the season, still had five Big East teams in his top 15 yesterday, including Pitt (No. 6) and three other teams that lost.

"I'm not one of those people that thinks the tournament is the sole determinant of how good a conference is," Pomeroy said. "I think the season-long record speaks for itself. But I had the Big Ten (ranked) higher than the Big East. I didn't have it on a pedestal. It's still a good conference. It just had a bad weekend."

I'm struggling with no such issues. I'm pulling for Arizona.

It is. I mean, my team is not Arizona. It's actually North Carolina, which explains why I give Pep a hard time about Duke but yeah, for as long as it lasts, I'll enjoy it. If we get past Marquette, we probably get Ohio State so I fear my jubilation will be short lived but like you say, for as long as it lasts right?

I'm not gonna lie... this game bothers me. But of course, from the Sweet 16 on, every game is going to bother me.

What's really gonna be hard on me is UConn if Duke and UConn win. I despise UConn, almost as much as UNC... :D

But I kind of want that matchup, because I feel like Duke can win, and I want to rub a certain UConn fan's nose in it. But they're playing good ball right now. At least someone in the Big East right?

I have always been a UNC fan too, .. well at least since 1974.

After I graduated, I lived and worked below Raleigh for a while. NC St. had just won the National Championship with Monty Towe, Burlson, Thompson, etc.

So just to razz the NC St. fans that I worked with, I cheered for UNC. They hated that, but it was easy because UNC was always good and Dean Smith is such a class act and a gentleman.

Plus through the Gale Catlett years I couldn't follow WVU basketball.
Always live and die Mountaineer football, but wasn't a Catlett fan so I cheered for UNC in basketball.

But since Beilein came, and now Huggins, WVU is my basketball team too.

I will be cheering for UNC since WVU is out of it. But this UNC team does not impress me like some have in the past. I guess I was just spoiled by Hansbrough.

I'm actually very surprised by this years team. With Thompson and Davis moving on, the Wear Twins transfering, Graves getting dismissed and Drew also transfering, that's a lot to lose. This team has done a good job of bouncing back IMO. Next year will be better I think but I'm actually please with what this team has been able to accomplish thus far.

You are right, they have overcome a lot.

I didn't follow them closely enough to know all of that. I forgot about the Wear's.

Why did Graves get dismissed, why did the twins transfer, and why did Drew leave?

I suspect the answer to all of the above is that Roy Williams is a ******.

I don't really know. The Wear twins are from Southern California so maybe they just wanted to go back home to UCLA. Grieves got booted for violating team policy. Williams never disclosed more then that publicly. Drew simply got beaten out by Kendall Marshall and didn't want to sit the bench so he just left.
