Can you say outside linebacker?:star:
Yes, yes I can as a matter of fact and without a lisp or stuttering too. Thanks for asking.

Oh, and in case that wasn't subtle enough, it's a foolish idea to even think about him in a 3-4 scheme, even at Outside Linebacker.

A. He's never played there before.

B. He's on the wrong side of 30.

C. He's going to want a big contract.

D. It's stupid to give a big contract to someone who at best will be a backup on the Cowboys.

Be fair.

There were rumors a few years ago that we were interested in acquiring him prior to the draft.

And oh, this thread is a few days late.

Who said anything about big contract.... I was thinking in the range of 1.5 - 3 million for a year or two.

I called this thread the other day when he was cut. Rice could be missing both arms and legs and RCF would want to sign him. :laugh2:

I wouldn't want Rice on this team for anything other than *really* cheap (which he won't do)... but he did play 3-4 OLB (at Illinois for Lou Tepper) in college. He was moved to DE in the pros.

He was on a 3-4 LB unit that also produced Dana Howard, John Holecek, and Kevin Hardy. I think Derrick Brownlow also came from Tepper's 3-4 unit.

Both Howard and Hardy won the Butkus Award and Rice and Hardy were No. 1 picks (Rice - Arizona and Hardy - Jacksonville).

Yeah there were, before we drafted Ware, Carpenter, and Spencer. At one time there were also rumors that Norv Turner was a shoe in as the next Head Coach.

I bet you enjoy telling ghost stories.

Once there was an owner and he knew this coach who did very very well with him in the past and even won Super Bowls with him. Then, one day, when the owner needed a new head coach, he interviewed the coach despite the fact he had failed miserably in two other stops. And even shook his hand at a Hall of Fame announcement.

And then he HIRED HIM AS A HEAD COACH!

I did. I said it. In my post in response to whether or not I could say "outside linebacker." Third post in the thread. Discussed in points C & D. If you still can't see it please let me know. I'll try better to explain where you can find the information.

Let's see if I can clear up any other fog.

Simeon Rice has an ego. He thinks he's one of the best DEs in the game. At one time he was. He line sup almost exclusively at RDE. That would mean you expect him to play WOLB in Phillips' 3-4 scheme. He's not better than DeMarcus Ware. Not by any wild stretch of the imagination. He isn't going to want to be a backup. Not for any price that you can pull out of the air from Fantasyland.

Now, before you get excited and move him to SOLB let me just say one thing about that.

~snicker~

Yeah, he's going to be an asset in a 3-4 scheme by changing sides of the field and changing positions and is going to beat out Greg Ellis (maybe if Greg stays injured) and our #1 draft pick, Anthony Spencer. Or perhaps you think he will accept being Spencer's backup. let me just say one thing about that.

~snicker~

Suffice it to say this is one of the sillier ideas I've seen in a while.

Let's just say I like them better than irrational fantasies that have no chance of coming to fruition.
