Any one here ever have ACL Reconstructive Surgery? I just had it yesterday morning and am in alot of pain. I didn't expect it to be easy, but I don't usually use pain killers and I've had 5 since 11am yesterday. Is that normal? I start PT tomorrow. For anyone who had it, what was your recovery time?

I haven't had it, but it's pretty common. My old roommate had it and he was back walking in no time. Best wishes. I'm sure some more qualified than I can clue you in on details, et cetera.

I've had it. I was walking in 2 weeks. It starts to feel pretty good at about 4 months. Athlete ready? No. But to where you don't notice it. At about 8 months I was released to play sports again, there were times that I didn't trust it, took me about a year to complete trust myself again.

Listen to your PT staff, they are experts and are there to help. Be sure and gauge your pain, there will be pain, if it is intolerable back off, but if it's just aching that is to be expected. But they will get you on your way to a speedy recovery.

Also, try to back off the pain killers after a week or so. But everything you said sounds perfectly normal.

I've had it too, everything Eric said here is exactly what I would have said.

I had it as well. Mine was a whole different scenario though as 4 days after my ACL surgery I realized I was suffering from appendicitis. Then had to have an emergency appendectomy the 5th day after my surgery.

I never had very much pain in my leg after the ACL surgery though. Had to take 1 or 2 pain pills but thats it. Not sure what's going on there?

Just make sure that once you are cleared to play, be 100% certain your knee is as ready as you'd like it. I started playing basketball (how i tore it in the first place) as soon as the Doc said I could and got undercut and tore my meniscus in the same knee.
