I'm curious to know if they are using the profits from this movie to do anything to help vets? Would be nice to see them do something good with it instead of seeing Hollywood make another buck off the backs of some of the hardest working people in the country.

I am certain the soldiers were compensated for his/her time during the shooting but I cannot find a single source stating that ANYTHING would be given to any military charity. :(

go go Hollywood

Quite the rant... Disney still puts out some good things, mostly under the Pixar studio. They have adult appeal while catering to kids as well. The live action movies (mainly the National Treasure and Pirates series) aren't great but I don't think Disney has ever done well with those types of movies. I haven't watched their latest non-Pixar animated movies (Tangle, Princess/Frog) so I cannot comment on them. Their channels are awful, hopefully my daughter never wants to watch them.

Disney has developed a clever marketing pattern. They spend big bucks on a high end animated movie (and if it is Pixar, it is pretty uniformly excellant). They then produce a bunch of cheap, knockoff, direct-to-dvd 'sequels' that the kids demand their parents get them. Profit!

Tangled was A-OK in my book btw.

I saw it and I think you all had too high of expectations, they guys are real active duty guys not actors so why would you expect great acting? I flat out loved it, I didn't care about the stiffness of the dialogue or if the premise of the story made the most sense, I went to see a movie dedicated to our soldiers and to see at least a more accurate depiction of what these guys do for us.

.....

bottom line is this movie evoked a passionate response from at least the audience in my theater and that is more than 99% of movies can do

Then make a documentary on them. Poor acting is poor acting.

When the pitch was made for this film, the phrase, '...and we'll have real Seals in it!' was doubtless there. Because they knew that it would appeal to and suck in a particular audience demographic. And it appears to have worked well in that, apparantly.

This is the way things happen in Hollywood business.

Upside, it should have gotten some of the guys their SAG cards.

^This

As much as respect the military, I am not gonna like a movie just because it has real Navy Seals in it.

you are misinformed

During production, after the SEALs became frustrated that they were not being accurately depicted, they were invited to play key roles in the cast.

I saw this movie and wished they would donate all profits from this movie to benefit the vets. I hate that some hollywood is making millions off the sweat/death of these guys.

With that being said, It gave me a headache (from the hat cam motion) and I fell asleep from it after the first mission ended. Woke up at the end and then balled my eyes out.

At the end they had that website after the roll call you could donate to, and when I bought my tickets online, it had a prompt to donate to the families of fall SEALs or something equivalent.

Kinda irked me because I reserved D-Box seats, front row center the day before and when I went to pick them up they didn't show in the system. Even at 11pm on a Sunday night, they ended up sold out. They gave us free passes for the movie instead and then three passes for future movies. I have to take my printed confirmed receipt to get my $58 back.

At first I was like, hey, no biggie I'll just come back and watch it on D-box again if its good. Meh.

***semi spoilers from here out***

when the boats came around the corner I almost got out of my seat

when the main guy saved his team my GF cried

when the bad guy died at the end I nearly yelled out **** you!

and when the flag was presented at the end my gf cried again because it reminded her of when her grandmother got hers and how heart felt it was when he said those words

bottom line is this movie evoked a passionate response from at least the audience in my theater and that is more than 99% of movies can do

Not what I'd really consider spoilers at all. You see the flag being popped over the casket in the video. You see the SEALs tridents being hammered into the casket in the video. Since there are multiple bad guys, no biggie.

The thing is, I think the marketing sells you someone is going to die, and the movie REALLY teases at who it's going to be in the first scene on the beach.

Shameless self-promotion, some of the things I hated about this movie are things I directly address in my book. Things like gaping plot holes, random characters getting information from way up the chain that needs to be coming down without establishing how those relationships exist.

You can't just say "State Department is in on this so we've got clearance to..." It seems arbitrary, forced, and fabricated.

Random spoiler, quote to see it.

What happened to the guys driving the dump trucks when they go into the milk factory???? Did the Enterprise just beam them up out of the front seats? They don't engage anyone, they don't get killed, they just disappear.

And such a dang big deal about the ceramic ball bearings. All of that "we can take them anywhere through any security" and then they intend to just walk them through a Mexican cartel tunnel? Hell, it's 20x easier to outfit a Conex shipping container with life support and ship yourself into America from South America. You'd only be in there a few days. Yeah, I used that in my book. All rights reserved. :D

Okay, it's cool you can donate, but again, why is a producer of this movie able to make millions off the backs of these characters? I know the Navy sees it as sort of a recruitment video, but I honestly hate Hollywood for not truly caring and respecting anything but money, that's why I hate that 9/11 movie that was made too.

yeah i didn't think they were huge spoilers cause it doesn't really give anything away but people who saw the movie would know what i'm talking about. I've said it before on here and I still believe that how much you like a movie is related to what you expect from it going in.

I just thought it was awesome to see how our guys work. We are used to plot holes and what not, we are not used to seeing real seals doing what they do and how they do it and I thought that was great.

The original production company, Bandito Brothers, seems to have really had the connection to the Seals. They are, apparantly, ex stunt guys and crew who have become cinematographers, directors and producers. They actually did do a documentary on the Navy Seals, which lead them to do this film. Their film was reportedly bought by another production company for 13 mil, and that company did the marketing, etc. And is going to pocket a huge profit.

Of course, Bandito is also responsible for the lackluster writing. The story of the making of the film does turn out to be pretty interesting.

Oh, and Saltwater, congrats on Just One Chapter To GO!

Thanks for posting those two articles.

I went back tonight and watched it again in the D-box seats since the theater gave me 6 free passes. D-Box motion seats are the only way to go with this movie. When the slick's come around the corner and start laying down fire with the miniguns like you see in the trailer...woooo buddy that's freaking cool. The first explosion? Wow.

I actually picked up the idea for my last line in the novel from the movie tonight. It's something insignificant that sounds like a line, but isn't a line in the movie, right before they go into the water.

He says "lead the way", but I'm going to use "bleed the way."
