Active Dfw neighborhoods

Hi,
Looking for advice on active Dfw neighborhoods...for context visiting my folks who live in the mid cities, and it feels like they are the only ones that live here LOL - Streets are ghost towns, even when the weather is like 70 degrees. Maybe it’s just an older area?

my friends in grapevine, proper Dallas, Plano, highland park report similar vibes. Don’t know anything about downtown ft worth for example.

Now it could just be the way it is, but you figure you all would have good thoughts.

for more context I personally feel at home in large people-oriented cities (nyc, Seoul, HK, London, Bangkok, etc) where I can walk/cycle/public transit....I know I won’t get all that but just to give a bit It more context. Parents getting older so that’s the motivation. Thx all!!!

Do the people in that area have a particular reason to stay indoors and away from other people?

sorry not following your question? what area in particular? the mid cities have been like this since i was in high school (20 years so not just a virus timeframe) but I didn’t venture much of city, I took Off after high school and never moved back. Cities have changed a lot in the past few decades so I figure there most be some walking active areas…I just don’t know them
 
It’s hot as hell outside. The streets are deserted because they don’t want to die.
 
Having just moved in to this neighborhood, which is near Saginaw, in the houses that are moved into I see people out all the time (walking dogs, hanging out, etc.) This is surprising since it was in August and HOT and nobody was in an air conditioned space suit.

What neighborhoods are you talking about specifically? Like the suburbs?

Downtown city is always going to be more active because everything is generally in walking or biking distance. The suburbs are generally sprawled out so the only people you’ll see on foot are walking for exercise or their dogs.

thanks for responding. Well generally downtown-ish areas but I understand downtown Dallas isn’t really a thing? I Could be wrong …is it walkable /never need a car? Cafes, restaurants, art, music venues, stores, etc? Just looking for the city bustle…totally understand when it’s 100 degrees no one is going to be walking about.

for suburbs I was looking for more active in that say ppl are outside, stuff to do outside (bike, jog, hike) without having to get in a car. I

I know not most of how Dfw is designed generally but hoping there is a pocket here or there since I last lived here, realize it’s a stretch, but good thing about Texas is ppl
Is variety.

otherwise I’d look for something off a lake and try to recess into , kind of one or the other lol. Thx

I think I know what you mean, but from what I remember Dallas has never been really considered a walkable city in the way San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, and New York are. Granted, it's been 25 years since I last lived there so maybe things have changed a little.

West End Dallas is active The rest of downtown goes empty after the working folks leave

Lots of people out eating and hanging out around the The Star.

Mainstreet in Grapevine is usually pretty busy year round.
Uptown Dallas around City Place is an urban hot spot with lots going on.
Fort Worth's Sundance Square and Historic District are also awesome places to visit.

And to top it off they serve food with Bacon on it.
 
Thank you everyone for the replies, I’ll dig around these areas. Grapevine right next doors used to reprise my mtn bike around the lake, good fun.

Thanks Bud, I’m worried I’ve rotted myself to non dense living lol. maybe a ghost town is the ticket to shake me!
