I liked DE's idea of adding weakest roles to best roles.

Actor is Tom Hanks.

Best role...Forrest Gump.

Weakest...Catch Me if You Can. Playing 2nd fiddle to DiCapprio cinches it for me.

I generally dislike DiCapprio, but his role in CMIYC was rock solid.

For me, best role for Tom Hanks is hands down Saving Private Ryan.

Favorite Tom Hanks movie has to be Big, though.

I'm with you 100%.
His weakest role?.....Castaway? Good movie, but what a waste of his talent.

I'd have to go with Saving Private Ryan as well.

Saving Private Ryan...

He was great in Big, Splash, Cast Away, The Green Mile, Apollo 13, A League of Their Own and Forrest Gump.

Bachelor Party was far and away his worst... but at that age I loved watching it... ;)

He was fantastic in Big and Apollo 13 on top of the other films named too. The guy is just an all around great actor.

I don't look down at Castaway though. I think he did a great job there too. He basically had no help and was pretty much the entire film.

Didn't see Catch me if you can, so I can't comment on it.

Too many good ones with him. Hard to say just one.

Far as catch me if you can. I think he did a good job in it and I can not reduce him just because Leo did a good job as well.

Don't know if this is his worst as an actor but I did not care for Joe vs the Volcano. Again did not care for the movie but I don't think it was because he did a bad job in it.

Best role: Forrest Gump

Worst role: Walter Fielding ( The Money Pit )

Best: Forrest Gump or Philadelphia

Worst: I can't say that there were any bad ones that stood out to me, but I haven't seen all of his films.

His best to me was Forrest Gump. That was a fantastic movie. His worst? This!

I'm not touching the best Hanks' role/Saving Private Ryan votes (he did a hell of a job in that movie), but I do have a question for those who count it as his best role:

Do you believe Roberto Benigni deserved winning the Best Actor oscar for his role in Life Is Beautiful instead of Hanks? Hanks edged him out in my opinion.

I think it was just a perfect storm for Benigni. No one expected that type of performance or that type of role from him given his previous works. The leap was to much for some to ignore. People expect excellence from Tom Hanks, so his delivering it was not as impressive as what Benigni accomplished. I think Hanks would win handily if a vote were cast again today.

I can concede to that opinion, but still say it was unfair to Hanks.

There will be a lot of good threads based on this theme, I think. Hopefully, some of the older (and even possibly deceased) actors will get a thread or two, like the late Paul Newman, Sidney Poitier and the late great Elizabeth Taylor ( Butterfly 8 anyone :p: ).

I didn't find all that much to be impressed about by Benigni's performance. In fact, from what I could tell, that's how he acts normally.

Best- Road to Perdition

Worst- Turner and Hooch

Actually I think Hanks' best role was as Alex Keaton's uncle on Family Ties, but I guess that doesn't count.
