Actress sues Amazon over her age on its IMDb site

An actress has sued Amazon.com for more than $1m (£639,000) after her age was posted on its Internet Movie Database.

The unnamed actress says the website misused her legal date of birth after she signed up to the IMDbPro service in 2008.

She says revealing her age on the site will lose her acting opportunities.

Amazon and its movie database subsidiary are accused of breach of contract, fraud, violation of privacy and consumer protection laws.

IMDb refused to remove the information, says the lawsuit, which was filed in a federal court in Seattle, where Amazon is based.

While the actress is losing opportunities because of her age, she’s also missing work because of her youthful appearance, the lawsuit says.

“Plaintiff has experienced rejection in the industry for each ‘40-year-old’ role for which she has interviewed because she does not and cannot physically portray the role of a 40-year-old woman,” the lawsuit says.

I saw this in an article about it. She is too old to get some roles and looks too young to get others. Sounds about right to me.

Seriously, are we expected to believe that the people who make movies use IMDB as their primary tool for casting those movies? Because I don't think that is how it works.

Teli Tequila comes close: She is of Asian descent, uses an "Americanized stage name," hails from Texas (she moved there when she was very young), and has been active on IMDb since 2003, which is the same year the plaintiff said she started using the database. But according to her bio, she's only 29 -- hardly over the hill, even by Hollywood standards.

Teli Tequila comes close: She is of Asian descent, uses an "Americanized stage name," hails from Texas (she moved there when she was very young), and has been active on IMDb since 2003, which is the same year the plaintiff said she started using the database. But according to her bio, she's only 29 -- hardly over the hill, even by Hollywood standards.

I doubt her bio would list her real age, which is the issue.

I am not following your comment at all. Why wouldn't the site have her real age? They refused to take it down, hence the lawsuit.

All stars have DOB listed on the bio side of IMdb.
